The solution behaviour of Na, Ba, Zn and Al ionomers of methyl methacrylate-methacrylic acid copolymer (P(MMA-MAA)) with different ion contents has been studied by viscosity and dipole moment measurements. Two solvents with different character are chosen for viscosity measurements: dioxane (ε = 2.22) and acetone (ε = 20.7). The expected polyelectrolyte behaviour of the ionomers in acetone is reflected by the viscometric measurements. Mean squared dipole moment 〈μ2〉 values are calculated over a temperature range of 20–100°C in dioxane. Effects of neutralization, cation size and cation charge are discussed for each ionomer.

DIPOLE-MOMENTS OF ISOTACTIC AND ATACTIC POLY(PROPYLENE OXIDE) SAMPLES
KUCUKYAVUZ, Z; ALYURUK, K; AHMAD, AM (Elsevier BV, 1991-01-01)
Dipole moments of poly(propylene oxide) (PPO) samples with different tacticities were determined from dielectric constant and refractive index increment measurements, which were performed on dilute toluene and isooctane solutions. In contrast to previous reports, both refractive index increments and the dipole moment ratios showed a marked dependence on the tacticities of the samples. The dipole moment ratios of isotactic samples were greater than unity and decreased with increasing sequence concentration...
Tuning of the neutral state color of the pi-conjugated donor-acceptor-donor type polymer from blue to green via changing the donor strength on the polymer
Tarkuc, Simge; Udum, Yasemin Arslan; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Elsevier BV, 2009-07-17)
Two donor-acceptor-donor types of T-conjugated monomers were synthesized using Stille coupling reaction. Both monomers were found to produce electroactive polymers upon electrochemical oxidation. The effects of different donor substituents on the polymers' electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical properties were examined. Optical characterization revealed that the band gaps of poly(2-(2,3-dihydrobenzo[b][1,4]dioxin-6-yl)-3-(2,3-dihydrobenzo[b][1,4]dioxin-7-yl)-5,8-di(thiophen-2-yl)quinoxaline) (PDBQTh) an...
GLASS-TRANSITION, CRYSTALLIZATION AND THERMOREVERSIBLE GELATION IN TERNARY PPO SOLUTIONS - RELATIONSHIP TO ASYMMETRIC MEMBRANE FORMATION
BURGHARDT, WR; Yılmaz, Levent; MCHUGH, AJ (Elsevier BV, 1987-11-01)
The phase equilibrium behaviour of PPO (poly 2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) in mixtures of trichloroethylene with non-solvents ethanol, methanol or octanol has been studied. Attention has been given to the phenomena of glass transition, crystallization and thermoreversible gelation. The effect of solvent-non-solvent mixtures on the glass transition temperature depression was studied using differential scanning calorimetry (d.s.c.) and found to be well described by a ternary form of the Kelley-Bueche equa...
Synthesis of 1,2,3,5- tetrasubstituted pyrrole derivatives via 5-exo-dig type cyclization and stereoselective functionalisation of ferrocene derivatives
Kayalar, Metin; Demir, Ayhan Sıtkı; Department of Chemistry (2005)
A convenient and new method for the synthesis of 1,2,3,5-tetrasubstituted pyrrole derivatives starting from 1,3,-dicarbonyl compounds through acid catalyzed cyclization reaction is described. Alkylation of 1,3-dicarbonyl compound with propargyl bromide followed by one step cyclization with the introduction of primary amines in the presence of catalytic amount of triflouroacetic acid (TFA) affords the corresponding pyrrole derivatives in high yields. The investigations on the studies of developing a new meth...
Preparation of conductive polybenzoxazines by oxidative polymerization
Kiskan, Baris; Yagci, Yusuf; Sahmetlioglu, Ertugrul; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Wiley, 2007-03-15)
precursors were prepared by oxidative polymerization 3-phenyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-benzo[e][1,3] oxazine (P-a) alone and in the presence of thiophene (Th) with ceric ammonium nitrate in acetonitrile. The structure of the precursors was confirmed by FTIR, H-1 NMR, and DSC measurements, indicating the presence of a cyclic benzoxazine structure, together with small but varying amount of a ring opened phenolic structure. The resulting polymers exhibit conductivities around 10(-2) S cm(-1) and undergo thermal curing a...
