A novel squaraine with a lariat-crown ether cation-receptor unit was synthesized and shown to selectively respond to Na+ ions in polar protic solvents. The selectivity of the novel ligand, together with the impressive spectroscopic properties of squaraines yields a promising chemosensor,

A soluble and multichromic conducting polythiophene derivative
Varis, Serhat; Ak, Metin; Tanyeli, Cihangir; Akhmedov, Idris Mecidoglu; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Elsevier BV, 2006-10-01)
A new soluble polythiophene derivative was synthesized by both chemical and electrochemical oxidative polymerization of 1-4-nitrophenyl-2,5-di(2-thienyl)-1H-pyrrole (SNSNO2). Chemical method produces a polymer which is completely soluble in organic solvents. The structures of both the monomer and the soluble polymer were elucidated by H-1 and C-13-NMR and FTIR. The average molecular weight has been determined by GPC to be Mn = 6.3 x 10(3) for the chemically synthesized polymer. P(SNSNO2) was also synthesize...
A new soluble conducting polymer and its electrochromic devices
YİLDİZ, UMİT HAKAN; SAHİN, ELİF; Akhmedov, IM; Tanyeli, Cihangir; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Wiley, 2006-04-01)
A new polythiophene derivative was synthesized by both chemical and electrochemical oxidative polymerization of 1-(1-phenylethyl)-2,5-di(2-thienyl)-1H-pyrrole (PETPy). Of which the chemical method produces a polymer that is completely soluble in organic solvents. The structures of both the monomer and the soluble polymer were elucidated by nuclear magnetic resonance (H-1 and C-13 NMR) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The average molecular weight has been determined by gel permeation chrom...
Iron(III) ion removal from solution through adsorption on chitosan
Burke, A; Yilmaz, E; Hasırcı, Nesrin; Yilmaz, O (2002-05-09)
The potential of different forms of chitosan to adsorb iron(III) ion from a Jectofer [an iron(III)-sorbitol-citric acid complex] solution was investigated. The working solution was chosen as Jectofer, to mimic the composition of excess iron(III) as may be found in biological systems. The equilibrium studies showed that chitosan powder has the highest sorption capacity for the iron(III) ion when compared to chitosan flakes and microspheres. The amount of iron(III) adsorbed onto chitosan was found to increase...
A facile synthesis of various butenolides
Tanyeli, Cihangir (Informa UK Limited, 2000-01-01)
The synthesis of alpha'-acyloxy-alpha,beta-unsaturated cyclic ketones from the corresponding alpha,beta-unsaturated cyclic ketones by using manganese (III) acetate in combination with 2-chloropropionic acid followed by subsequent Arbuzov and intramolecular Horner-Emmons cyclization reactions provided a convenient synthetic pathway to various butenolides 4a-d.
Polybenzimidazole based nanocomposite membranes with enhanced proton conductivity for high temperature PEM fuel cells
Ozdemir, Yagmur; Uregen, Nurhan; DEVRİM, YILSER (2017-01-26)
In this study, phosphoric acid doped PBI nanocomposite membranes were prepared by dispersion of various amounts of inorganic nanoparticles in PBI polymer followed by phosphoric acid (H3PO4) doping for high temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cells (HT-PEMFC). All of the PBI composite membranes were cast from the same FBI polymer with the same molecular weight. Titanium dioxide (TiO2), silicon dioxide (SiO2) and inorganic proton conductor zirconium phosphate (ZrP) were used as inorganic fillers. The PB...
