In this study an approach that uses social networking data for developing sentiment analysis system is proposed. With the help of developed software, it is tried to find out whether there is any relation between universities' academic success and sentiment of the public about them in social media. After collecting enough text based data from Twitter, preprocessing of data is carried out and final data is trained by means of Naive Bayes Classifier. After testing process, experimental results have shown that developed sentiment analysis system can classify the tweets about top 10 universities according to URAP rankings in terms of their sentiment with the 72.33% success rate, and proposed methodology can be used by universities for understanding sentiment of the public about them in social media.

Understanding consumer innovativeness via theory of goal directed behavior: an investigation of factors affecting adoption of online games
Baybaş, Gülnur; Yılmaz, Cengiz; Department of Business Administration (2015)
This study aims to analyze the factors behind adoption of online games, using a theoretical foundation based mostly on the theory of goal-directed behavior and diffusion of innovations model. Factors affecting the adoption behavior are determined on the basis of the goal directed behavior theory, and differences between adopter categories of online game buyers are investigated by applying Rogers’ diffusion of innovations (DOI) theory. Online survey was conducted to reach target group by using social media a...
Effect of Using Regression in Sentiment Analysis
Onal, Itir; Ertuğrul, Ali Mert (2014-04-25)
In this study, the effect of using regression on sentiment classification of Twitter data was analyzed. In other words, whether the strength of sentiment better discriminates the classes or not. Since our dataset includes class confidence scores rather than discrete class labels, regression analysis was employed on each class separately. Then, each tweet was assigned the class whose estimated confidence score is maximum among others after regression. The feature set used includes unigrams, POS tags, emotico...
Understanding cognitive presence in an online and blended community of inquiry: Assessing outcomes and processes for deep approaches to learning
Akyol, Zehra; Garrison, D. Randy (2011-03-01)
This paper focuses on deep and meaningful learning approaches and outcomes associated with online and blended communities of inquiry. Applying mixed methodology for the research design, the study used transcript analysis, learning outcomes, perceived learning, satisfaction, and interviews to assess learning processes and outcomes. The findings for learning processes and outcomes indicated that students in both online and blended courses were able to reach high levels of cognitive presence and learning outco...
Modern tools for the time-discrete dynamics and optimization of gene-environment networks
DEFTERLİ, ÖZLEM; Fuegenschuh, Armin; Weber, Gerhard Wilhelm (Elsevier BV, 2011-12-01)
In this study, we discuss the models of genetic regulatory systems, so-called gene-environment networks. The dynamics of such kind of systems are described by a class of time-continuous ordinary differential equations having a general form (E) over dot = M(E)E, where E is a vector of gene-expression levels and environmental factors and M(E) is the matrix having functional entries containing unknown parameters to be optimized. Accordingly, time-discrete versions of that model class are studied and improved b...
Effective feature reduction for link prediction in location-based social networks
Bayrak, Ahmet Engin; Polat, Faruk (SAGE Publications, 2019-10-01)
In this study, we investigated feature-based approaches for improving the link prediction performance for location-based social networks (LBSNs) and analysed their performances. We developed new features based on time, common friend detail and place category information of check-in data in order to make use of information in the data which cannot be utilised by the existing features from the literature. We proposed a feature selection method to determine a feature subset that enhances the prediction perform...
