A Near-Infrared (NIR) embedded metamaterial (MTM) structure is proposed in this study. The computational design process of the complex material and the results of that process are covered and discussed. According to the simulations, periodically engineered silver resonators that are combined with SiO2 give good transmission characteristics at NIR frequency range when their lattice and resonator parameters are well adjusted. Besides, the simulation results are in somehow agreement with the mathematical formulations of the predicted polarization fields in terms of the resonator parameters. The entire combination provides an opportunity to control the wave propagation for the benefit of optical communication applications.

Batch scheduling duling of incompatible jobs on a single reactor with dynamic arrivals
Korkmaz, Gediz; Kayalıgil, Sinan; Department of Industrial Engineering (2004)
In this study, a single machine batch-scheduling problem with incompatible jobs and dynamic arrivals is examined. The objective function is the minimization of the total flow time of the jobs. For solving problems a case specific branch and bound algorithm with a heuristic upper bound scheme and two alternative lower bound procedures is used. An extensive computational experiment is conducted to investigate the effects of certain parameters on the computation time. For the most difficult parameter combinati...
Multi-band metamaterial absorber topology for infrared frequency regime
Mulla, Batuhan; Sabah, Cumali (2017-02-01)
In this paper, a new multiband metamaterial absorber design is proposed and the numerical characterization is carried out. The design is composed of three layers with differently sized quadruplets in which the interaction among them causes the multiband absorption response in the infrared frequency regime. In order to characterize the absorber. and explain the multiband topology, some parametric studies with respect to the dimensions of the structure are carried out and the contributions of the quadruplets ...
Modeling and Simulation of High Speed Railway Vehicle Dynamics
Tuğçe, Yüksel; Ünlüsoy, Yavuz Samim (null; 2015-03-04)
This study aims to provide mathematical model(s) for the simulation of high speed railway vehicles. The dynamic behavior of a high speed train is divided into three uncoupled motions: vertical, lateral, and longitudinal. Two models with different complexities are used to simulate vertical plane response of the vehicle to track vertical irregularities. Different wheel-rail contact formulations are utilized to simulate the lateral plane motion of the vehicle on tangent and curved tracks. For both vertical and...
Modern tools for the time-discrete dynamics and optimization of gene-environment networks
DEFTERLİ, ÖZLEM; Fuegenschuh, Armin; Weber, Gerhard Wilhelm (Elsevier BV, 2011-12-01)
In this study, we discuss the models of genetic regulatory systems, so-called gene-environment networks. The dynamics of such kind of systems are described by a class of time-continuous ordinary differential equations having a general form (E) over dot = M(E)E, where E is a vector of gene-expression levels and environmental factors and M(E) is the matrix having functional entries containing unknown parameters to be optimized. Accordingly, time-discrete versions of that model class are studied and improved b...
Two-sided assembly line balancing models and heuristics
Arıkan, Uğur; Kırca, Ömer; Department of Industrial Engineering (2009)
This study is focused on two-sided assembly line balancing problems of type-I and type-II. This problem is encountered in production environments where a two-sided assembly line is used to produce physically large products. For type-I problems, there is a specified production target for a fixed time interval and the objective is to reach this production capacity with the minimum assembly line length used. On the other hand, type-II problem focuses on reaching the maximum production level using a fixed assem...
