The variational extremum method is further extended to give the full coverage for the inclined (tilted) grain-boundary (GB) configuration with respect to the sidewalls of a bicrystal thin solid film having strong anisotropic specific surface Gibbs free energy associated with the singular directions (faceting). A set of critical computer simulation experiments is performed on the asymmetrically disposed (inclination) bicrystal thin metallic films having four- and sixfold anisotropic specific surface Gibbs free energies to demonstrate the various GB-groove root topologies. Special computer runs are also designed using the realistic structural and physicochemical properties to simulate the thermal grooving profile of polycrystalline alumina (Lucalox (TM)), and tungsten, which undergone heat treatments for 90 and 120 min at 1650 and 1350 degrees C in air and vacuum (10(-4) Pa), respectively. The simulation profiles almost perfectly agree with the published experimental atomic force microscopy photographs after linewidth matching procedures, and the simulations produced very accurate mean surface (mass) diffusivities of alumina and tungsten given by D-Al2O3 congruent to 6.45x10(-12) m(2)/s and D-W congruent to 5.2x10(-13) m(2)/s, respectively. These findings are in good agreement with the diffusivities reported in the literature. (c) 2008 American Institute of Physics.

Measurement of the B-+/- Meson Nuclear Modification Factor in Pb-Pb Collisions at root s(NN)=5.02 TeV
Sirunyan, A. M.; et. al. (American Physical Society (APS), 2017-10-01)
The differential production cross sections of B-+/- mesons are measured via the exclusive decay channels B-+/- -> J/psi K-+/- -> mu(+)mu K--(+/-) as a function of transverse momentum in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV per nucleon pair with the CMS detector at the LHC. The pp(Pb - Pb) data set used for this analysis corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 28.0 pb(-1) (351 mu b(-1)). The measurement is performed in the B-+/- meson transverse momentum range of 7 to 5...
An Autonomous Interface Circuit Based on Self-Investing Synchronous Energy Extraction for Low Power Piezoelectric Energy Harvesters
ÇİFTCİ, BERKAY; Chamanian, S.; Uluşan, H.; Külah, Haluk (2019-12-04)
This paper presents a self-powered interface circuit to rectify and manage the AC output of the piezoelectric energy harvesters (PEH) by utilizing Self-Investing Synchronous Electric Charge Extraction technique (SI-SECE). The system invests charges from the battery to PEH to improve the electromechanical coupling factor and consequently the energy extraction by utilizing only one external component. The circuit was implemented in 180 nm CMOS technology where high voltage (HV) MOS transistors are utilized to...
Energy distribution of the universe in the Bianchi type II cosmological models
Aydogdu, O (Wiley, 2006-04-01)
Using the energy-momentum complexes of Tolman, Papapetrou and Weinberg, the total energy of the universe in Locally Rotationally Symmetric (LRS) Bianchi type II models is calculated. The total energy is found to be zero due to the matter plus field. This result supports the viewpoint of Tryon, Rosen and Albrow. (c) 2006 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.
Morphological evolution of voids by surface drift diffusion driven by the capillary, electromigration, and thermal-stress gradient induced by the steady state heat flow in passivated metallic thin films and flip-chip solder joints. II. Applications
Ogurtani, Tarik Omer; Akyildiz, Oncu (AIP Publishing, 2008-07-15)
The void growth and drift motion induced by the combined actions of the phase transformation (evaporation and condensation) and surface drift diffusion driven by the capillary and electromigration forces and thermal-stress gradients are investigated in passivated metallic thin films and flip-chip solder joints via computer simulation using the front-tracking method. As far as the device reliability is concerned, the most critical configuration for solder joint failure occurs even when thermal stresses are l...
Nonlinear mode coupling and sheared flow in a rotating plasma
Uzun Kaymak, İlker Ümit; Choi, S.; Clary, M. R.; Ellis, R. F.; Hassam, A. B.; Teodorescu, C. (IOP Publishing, 2009-01-01)
Shear flow is expected to stabilize the broad spectrum of interchange modes in rotating plasmas. However, residual fluctuations may still persist. To investigate the presence of such fluctuations, sixteen magnetic pickup coils equally spaced on a crown have been mounted inside the vacuum vessel, at the edge of a rotating plasma in mirror configuration. A comprehensive analysis of the magnetic fluctuations shows that very low spatial mode numbers survive under the imposed shear flow. Nevertheless, temporal F...
