In this work, improvements on propagation prediction models based on ray tracing in coverage estimation for digital broadcasting systems are presented. For this purpose, firstly propagation models based on Geometrical Theory of Diffraction (GTD) are discussed, and then an improved model is proposed for prediction of propagation path loss or electric field strength at the receiver. The proposed model incorporates first order expansion of classical GTD in field computation and convex hull for ray tracing. Simulation results are presented for comparison of various models in terms of computation time and accuracy.

Şahin, Halil İbrahim; Dural Ünver, Mevlüde Gülbin; Koç, Seyit Sencer; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2010)
In the scope of this thesis, simulation-based analyses and comparative evaluation of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) image formation techniques, namely Time Domain Correlation, Range Stacking, Range Doppler and Chirp Scaling algorithms, are presented. For this purpose, first, the fundamental concepts of SAR such as SAR geometry, resolution and signal properties are explained. A broadside SAR simulator that provides artificial raw data as an input to the algorithms is designed and implemented. Then, the mathe...
An Analysis for the Correlation of Coverage and Spatial Resolution for Wireless Sensor Networks
Tomur, Emrah; Erten, Y. Murat (2007-12-10)
In this study, we investigate the interactions between coverage and spatial resolution for cluster-based wireless sensor networks (WSN). We present an approximate probabilistic analysis for the mentioned correlation and verify this analysis by simulation. Our analysis includes the k-coverage case.
AN ANALYSIS TO IMPROVE STABILITY OF DRIVE-MODE OSCILLATIONS IN CAPACITIVE VIBRATORY MEMS GYROSCOPES
Alper, S. E.; Sahin, K.; Akın, Tayfun (2009-01-29)
This paper presents an analysis showing that it is possible to determine the factors that limit the stability of drive-mode oscillations of a vibratory MEMS gyroscope with precise modeling. Specifically, unwanted electrical resonance characteristics of the gyroscope drive-mode are analyzed together with analytical expressions, whereas the results of the theoretical analyses are verified both by simulations and measurements, which agree very well. It is demonstrated that the stability of the drive-mode oscil...
A Comparison of spatial modulation and spatial multiplexing systems in multipath fading channels
Saygılı, Halil; Yılmaz, Ali Özgür; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2013)
In this thesis, multiple antenna transmission techniques like spatial multiplexing, spatial modulation and multiple active spatial modulation are compared in multipath fading channels. Maximum likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE) based on the Ungerboeck observation model is the optimal operation for intersymbol interference channels and applied on the mentioned multiple antenna transmission strategies. The performance analysis based on Monte Carlo simulations and comparison of the computational complexity ...
