Synthesis of four-coordinated (tetrahedral) trichlorophenol cobalt(II) complex with neutral ligand pyridine was achieved from the aqueous solution and its characterization was performed by UV-visible, IR spectral and CHN analysis. Solid state thermal polymerization of the complex was accomplished first at constant temperature employing different time intervals and secondly at constant decomposition time. The poly(dichlorophenylene oxide)s so synthesized were characterized by IR, H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR spectral analysis, T(g) determination, as well as measurement of molecular weight by a viscometric method.

The functions of nanoclay and three different boron containing substances, zinc borate (ZnB), borophosphate (BPO(4)), and boron silicon containing preceramic oligomer (BSi), were studied to improve the flame retardancy of polypropylene (PP)-nanoclay-intumescent system composed of ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and pentaerythritol (PER). The flame retardancy of PP composites was investigated using limiting oxygen index (LOI), UL-94 standard, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and cone calorimeter.

The reaction between 1,5-diethenylnaphthalene and sec-butyllithium produces a new difunctional organolithium initiator which is soluble in non-polar solvents and effective in the synthesis of styrene-isoprene-styrene triblock copolymer. Monomodal molecular weight distributions are observed for block copolymers and styrene homopolymers. The microstructure of polyisoprene blocks is similar to those polymers initiated by butyllithium in the same solvent.
