OZSOY, E
UNLUATA, U
Satellite and in situ data are utilized to investigate the mesoscale dynamics of the Black Sea boundary current system with special emphasis on aspects of transport and productivity. The satellite data are especially helpful in capturing rapid sub-mesoscale motions insufficiently resolved by the in situ measurements.

Coastal deep ocean interactions in the Black Sea and their ecological/environmental impacts
Sur, HI; Ozsoy, E; Ilyin, YP; Unluata, U (1996-02-01)
Satellite (CZCS, AVHRR) and in-situ (CTD, ADCP) data are utilized to characterize the impact of meso-scale motions and boundary currents on transport and productivity along the wide Western Black Sea Shelf.
Palaeomagnetic evolution of the Cankiri Basin (central Anatolia, Turkey): implications for oroclinal bending due to indentation
Kaymakcı, Nuretdin; Langereis, Cor; White, Stan; van Dijk, Paul (Cambridge University Press (CUP), 2003-05-01)
Palaeomagnetic data in combination with palaeostress data and anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility orientations are utilized to develop a tectonic evolutionary model for the Early Tertiary part of the Omega(omega)-shaped Cankiri Basin (Turkey). The results reveal clockwise rotations in the northeast and anticlockwise rotations in the west and southeastern corner of the basin. The magnetic inclinations indicate a northward drift of the Cankiri Basin and support an indentation model for the Kirsehir Block. I...
SEDIMENTATION-RATES IN THE SEA OF MARMARA - A COMPARISON OF RESULTS BASED ON ORGANIC-CARBON - PRIMARY PRODUCTIVITY AND PB-210 DATING
ERGIN, M; BODUR, MN; YILDIZ, M; EDIGER, D; EDIGER, V; YEMENICIOGLU, S; YUCESOY, F (Elsevier BV, 1994-10-01)
A large number of surficial sediment samples (75 grab samples, one boomerang core, four box cores) as well as primary productivity measurements have been used to estimate the rates of sediment accumulation in the Sea of Marmara; using an empirical expression for the relationship between surface productivity and organic carbon content of the sediment (MOLLER-SUESS formula). It was found that calculated low sedimentation rates occurred on the inner southern Marmara shelf (ave. 8 cm 1000 y-1) where the primary...
GIS based geothermal potential assessment for Western Anatolia
Tüfekçi, Nesrin; Süzen, Mehmet Lütfi; Department of Geological Engineering (2006)
This thesis aims to predict the probable undiscovered geothermal systems through investigation of spatial relation between geothermal occurrences and its surrounding geological phenomenon in Western Anatolia. In this context, four different public data, which are epicenter map, lineament map, Bouger gravity anomaly and magnetic anomaly maps, are utilized. In order to extract the necessary information for each map layer the raw public data is converted to a synthetic data which are directly used in the analy...
Engineering geological investigations along the Iliksu Tunnels, Alanya, southern turkey
Koçkar, Mustafa Kerem; Akgün, Haluk (Elsevier BV, 2003-03-01)
The main objective of this study is to assess the engineering geological characteristics of the rock mass and to suggest appropriate support recommendations along the two autoroad tunnel projects, named as Iliksu 1 and lliksu 2, which are located along the Antalya-Alanya Highway. The study area consists of pelitic schist and calc schist overlain by a thick sequence of recrystallized limestone and an intercalation of pelitic schist, calc schist and graphite schist. The tunnel ground support types and categor...
