Water produced constitutes a large amount of waste fluids during the production operation of an oilfield. Underground injection for disposing of the wastewater from hydrocarbon production is an engineering problem due to the possibility of leakage of injected pollutant material from the receiving medium to a drinking-water source.

Genetic algorithms for optimizing the remediation of contaminated aquifer
Gumrah, F; Erbas, D; Oz, B; Altintas, S (2000-11-01)
Produced water constitutes a large amount of waste fluids during the production operation of an oil field. Underground injection for disposing the wastewater from hydrocarbon production is an engineering problem due to the possibility of leakage of injected pollutant material from receiving medium to a drinking water source. This paper describes a method for optimization of polluted aquifer remediation design using one of the artificial intelligence optimization methods, namely Genetic Algorithms (GAs). As ...
Optimum design of slurry pipelines by genetic algorithm
Yildiz, Burhan; Altan Sakarya, Ayşe Burcu; Ger, A. Metin (2014-10-02)
Various applications of slurry transportation through pipelines exist. A transportation problem is formulated to determine the pipe diameters and amounts of transported slurry from the production to the consumption points. The minimisation of the cost consisting of the pipe and energy cost terms is considered as the objective function. Pipe cost is given as the function of pipe diameters and the energy cost is defined as the function of pipe diameters and slurry amounts. Energy cost is obtained by using the...
Pollution of an aquifer by produced oil field water
Okandan, E; Gumrah, F; Demiral, B (2001-05-01)
Brine is produced from reservoirs as a waste material from crude oil and gas after processing. Waste water may be discharged at the surface or reinjected underground. When it is reinjected, it may be mixed with an underground fresh water source for several reasons. From this point of view, forecasting the pollutant concentrations by knowing the historical data at several locations on a field has great importance when planning the necessary precautions for environmental safety.
Discrete fracture network modeling and gel injection simulation in fractured carbonates
Longinos, Sotırıos Nik; Soltanieh, Ashkan; Akın, Serhat (null; 2018-01-01)
Hydrocarbon production is usually restricted by excess water production in naturally fractured reservoirs. Polymergel injection is an efficient method to shut-off fracture conduits in water bearing zones. Efficiency of water shut-offmay decrease in time due to several reasons. Well diagnostic methods such as recovery plot, production history plotand decline curve analysis can be used to identify necessity to re-gel the well. Both of the surveillance methods requiresome sort of analytical modeling and may no...
