The two-phase induction machine (TPIM) is widely used in many light-duty applications were three-phase supply is not readily available also a two phases symmetrical or unsymmetrical can be shift auxiliary winding. Therefore, in the indirect field oriented control, the rotor circuit time constant is an important parameter. Incorrect estimation of the rotor time constant also leads to incorrect flux angle calculations and can cause significant performance deterioration if no means for compensation or identification is applied. The magnetic saturation, the operating temperature and difficulties in using sensors for speed measurement are one of the sources of parameters variations, caused by non-linear nature of the magnetizing curve and the variations of the rotor resistance. The classical indirect field-oriented control is highly sensitive to the inductance values decrease when increasing the saturation level.

Design and implementation of an optimized printed circuit board axial-flux permanent magnet machine
Tokgöz, Furkan; Çakal, Gökhan; Keysan, Ozan (2020-08-23)
© 2020 IEEE.Although axial-flux machines are used in a different variety of applications, production challenge of the stator winding is a limiting factor for more widely use of these machines. Printed circuit board winding (PCB) can mitigate the production challenges of the axial-flux machines by introducing cheap and precise mass production capabilities. In this paper, the design and implementation of an 16 pole, 2000 RPM, 40 W axial-flux permanent magnet machine with PCB winding for gimbal camera stabiliz...
Simulation of glow discharge plasmas by using parallel particle in cell / monte carlo collision method : the effects of number of super particles used in the simulations
Erden, Emrah; Çetinkaya, Tahsin Ali; Rafatov, İsmail; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2013)
Mechanical amplification is achieved using a multi-flexure-hinge based compliant mechanism, due to limited displacement range of piezoactuator. In the design stage of mechanism, a comparison matrix analysis is performed to decide the best alternative among the possible compliant mechanism candidates. The mechanical design parameters of the displacement amplifier is determined optimally using the analytical equation derived using Pseudo Rigid Body Model, and the static analysis is performed using finite elem...
Design of a Piezoelectric Ultrasonic Motor for Micro-Robotic Application
Akın, Tayfun; Başaran, Dilek; Erden, Abdülkadir (null; 2002-09-05)
In a piezoelectric ultrasonic motor, exciting at least two orthogonal mechanical vibration modes of the composite stator using single or orthogonal multiple high frequency AC signals generates a mechanical vibration on the stator surface. The rotor is pressed against the stator's surface and a rotation is produced by frictional interaction between the touching stator and rotor surfaces. Piezoelectric ultrasonic motors, which have superior characteristics like; high torque at low speed, frictional locking at...
Characteristics of free overfall for supercritical flows
Tokyay, Nuray (2007-02-01)
The characteristics of supercritical flow at a vertical drop in a rectangular channel are studied experimentally to obtain information that would be valuable to designers of hydraulic structures. The relationship between the ratio of brink depth to the depth of upstrearn supercritical flow (i.e., end-depth ratio) and the Froude number is determined. Downstream from the vertical drop, the physical characteristics of the failing jet are examined, such as the height of the standing water behind the jet, the ma...
Calculation and measurement of electromechanical coupling coefficient of capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducers
Yaralioglu, GG; Ergun, AS; Bayram, Barış; Haeggstrom, E; Khuri-Yakub, BT (2003-04-01)
The electromechanical coupling coefficient is an important figure of merit of ultrasonic transducers. The transducer bandwidth is determined by the electromechanical coupling efficiency. The coupling coefficient is, by definition, the ratio of delivered mechanical energy to the stored total energy in the transducer. In this paper, we present the calculation and measurement of coupling coefficient for capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducers (CMUTs). The finite element method (FEM) is used for our cal...
