For distribution grids connected wind power generation, voltage quality is an important issue for the system planning purpose. The operation of wind turbines in the distribution networks may affect the voltage quality offered to the consumers. One of the most important considerations is the effect on the voltage profile, i.e. the induced slow voltage variations, which are the subject of this paper.

Determination of wind power potential and optimal wind power plant locations in Turkey
Çetinay, Hale; Güven, Ali Nezih; Tör, Osman Bülent; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2014)
Due to increased environmental concerns, utilization of the renewable energy, especially the wind power, gains importance. Like developed countries which have set their renewable energy targets for the long term integration, Turkish government has also set the goal as 20 GW of total wind power installed capacity in 2023. In this thesis, the wind power potential in Turkey is analyzed and different cases are studied to determine optimal locations for wind power plant establishment. In order to determine the w...
Investigation of inertial support limits in wind turbines and the effects on the power system stability
Duymaz, Erencan; Keysan, Ozan; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2019)
In this study, the inertial support implementation is studied for variable speed wind turbines with a full-scale power electronics. To increase the active power as desired, Machine Side Converter is modified with an additional control loop. In the first part of the thesis, active power of the wind turbine is increased to the limits and the maximum achievable active power is found out to be restricted by the wind speed. It is found that the wind turbine can increase its output power by 40% of rated power in ...
Evaluation of Grid-Connected PV Converter Power Module Technologies in Terms of Efficiency, Initial Cost, and Return on Investment Time
Oztoprak, Oguzhan; Hava, Ahmet Masum (2019-01-01)
The voltage source converter (VSC) of the grid connected photovoltaic (PV) systems is the most technological component in a PV system and contributes to 5-15% of the whole investment. As the cost and energy efficiency of a VSC are two factors that determine the total system economics, the system total cost of ownership (TCO) should be optimized during the VSC design. This paper provides a design methodology for grid connected VSCs considering TCO, the return on investment (ROI) and payback period (PP) as th...
New strategy for optimization of output power of a DFIG wind turbine
Abedinzadeh, Taller; Ehsan, Mehdi; Afsharirad, Hadi; Nazaraliloo, Mohammad (2011-09-10)
This paper presents a method to maximize the output power of a DFIG wind turbine. In this method, an optimization technique based on mathematical analysis has been used. The modeling of DFIG is performed using MATLAB.
Modeling and investigation of fault ride through capability of variable speed wind turbines
Koç, Erkan; Güven, Ali Nezih; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2010)
Technological improvements on wind energy systems with governmental supports have increased the penetration level of wind power into the grid in recent years. The high level of penetration forces the wind turbines stay connected to the grid during the disturbances in order to enhance system stability. Moreover, power system operators must revise their grid codes in parallel with these developments. This work is devoted to the modeling of variable speed wind turbines and the investigation of fault ride troug...
