Maps are presented for dynamic height and geostrophic flow in the upper thermocline based upon four basin-wide hydrographic surveys during 1985-1987. The data collection was coordinated, intercalibrated and pooled by the international research programme for Physical Oceanography of the Eastern Mediterranean (POEM). Objective analysis mapping was constrained to have no normal flow into the coasts. These maps reveal a new picture of the general circulation in which sub-basin-scale gyres are interconnected by jets and currents. Important variabilities occur in permanent and recurrent features but transient eddies and jets also occur. A schematic synthesis is constructed.

Detection of reservoir water levels using landsat remote sensing data over Ermenek and Altınkaya dams
Şenocak, Ali Ulvi Galip; Yılmaz, M. Tuğrul.; Department of Civil Engineering (2019)
Detection of water border using remote sensing observations at the visible bands and incorporating them with the digital elevation map is a useful approach for detecting water volume of dams and the water bodies with existing DEM images. In this study, NDWI, NDPI, WI2015 and AWEI indices retrieved using Landsat 8 images and ASTER/SRTM DEM maps are utilized to infer about the water levels of Ermenek and Altınkaya dams’ reservoir water levels. To reduce the water level retrieval errors during the cloudy and t...
Regional ionosphere mapping by using neural networks
Gueruen, Melike; Akdogan, Kurtulu Erinc; YILMAZ, ATİLA (2007-06-16)
Regional ionosphere mapping is necessary to understand the underlying characteristics of ionosphere. In this paper, multilayer perceptrons and radial basis networks, as chosen neural network methods, are used to obtain a map of ionosphere based on a number of given (Total Electron Content) TEC values. For varying number of given data and locations, their performances are analyzed and compared. Their performances are also tested for artificially formed data points and they are applied to real data from GPS s...
MULTI-TEMPORAL SPECTRAL UNMIXING FOR SCALE-AWARE LAND USE/LAND COVER CLASSIFICATION USING SENTINEL-2
NABDEL, Leili; Leloğlu, Uğur Murat; Department of Geodetic and Geographical Information Technologies (2022-9-02)
CORINE Land Cover mapping scheme provides an ontology to create consistent classification maps that are regularly updated. Since CORINE is a mixed Land Use / Land Cover (LULC) standard, classification based solely on spectral and temporal properties of the pixel in question is not adequate and contextual information should also be considered. An efficient classification method, which uses spectral unmixing of multi-spectral multi-temporal Sentinel-2 imagery, has been proposed in this work. Rather than the c...
Vertical-axis block rotations linked to normal faulting: paleomagnetic and structural evidence from Miocene to Recent extensional basins in southern Turkey
Koç, Ayten; Van Hinsbergen, Douwe; Kaymakcı, Nuretdin; Langereis, Cor (2017-12-28)
Paleomagnetism provides important constraints on complex patterns of vertical axis rotations in orogens. Where normally paleomagnetism is applied to constrain regional rotations, in the vicinity of fault zones often locally varying rotation patterns occur. Here we provide results of an extensive paleomagnetic survey constraining vertical axis rotation in Neogene extensional continental basins in the Taurides, in the eastern flank of the Isparta Angle (SW Turkey). In total, 437 oriented cores were sampled at...
The Coastal Circulation Model of Büyük Menderes River and Adjacent Coastal Areas
Özyurt Tarakcıoğlu, Gülizar (null; 2019-05-13)
In this study, circulation model of Büyük Menderes River and the adjacent coastal areas willbe presented. Büyük Menderes runs through the second biggest alluvial plains in Turkey anddischarges into the Aegean Sea where fishing and tourism are main income for the region. Therefore, an accurate representation of water circulation is important both for the waterquality in the bay and the morphodynamics at the coast of Büyük Menderes Delta.Finite Volume Coastal Ocean Model (FVCOM) is used for the circulation mod...
