A retrieval method is proposed for determination of electromagnetic properties of bi-anisotropic metamaterial (MM) slabs inserted in a waveguide. For this goal, forward and backward reflection and transmission scattering (S-) parameters of a configuration where the slab is positioned into a waveguide are first derived and then a procedure for extraction of electromagnetic properties of this slab is presented. We performed full-wave electromagnetic simulations on the bi-anisotropic MM slab with split-ring-resonators to validate the proposed method.

Calibration-free extraction of constitutive parameters of magnetically coupled anisotropic metamaterials using waveguide measurements

A calibration-free method for extraction of electromagnetic properties of magnetically coupled anisotropic biaxial metamaterial (MM) slabs from waveguide measurements is proposed. It relies on three measurement steps (thru, empty line, and the same line arbitrarily loaded by the MM slab) to extract electromagnetic properties. It is evaluated against another calibration-dependent method for retrieval of electromagnetic properties of a MM slab constructed by C-shaped resonators. From evaluation analysis, we n...
Assessment of shielding effectiveness by using electromagnetic topology method
Yaşlak, Halil İbrahim; Demir, Şimşek; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2013)
In this thesis, determination of the shielding effectiveness of a rectangular shielding box with apertures on its walls by using electromagnetic topology (EMT) technique based on Baum-Liu-Tesche (BLT) equation is presented. The presented technique is applied to determine the field penetration into various rectangular shielding boxes with different sizes and aperture dimensions. An HP branded computer case is also analysed as a rectangular shielding box with a CD driver slot as an aperture. Results on electr...
Multi-frequency contactless electrical impedance imaging using realistic head models : single coil simulations
Gürsoy, Doğa; Ertan, Hulusi Bülent; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2007)
Contactless electrical impedance imaging technique is based upon the measurement of secondary electromagnetic fields caused by induced currents inside the body. In this study, a circular single-coil is used as a transmitter and a receiver. The purpose of this study is twofold: (1) to solve the induced current density distribution inside the realistic head model resulting from a sinusoidal excitation, (2) to calculate the impedance change of the same coil from the induced current distribution inside the head...
Vibration analysis of cracked beams on elastic foundation using Timoshenko beam theory
Batıhan, Ali Çağrı; Kadıoğlu, Fevzi Suat; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2011)
In this thesis, transverse vibration of a cracked beam on an elastic foundation and the effect of crack and foundation parameters on transverse vibration natural frequencies are studied. Analytical formulations are derived for a beam with rectangular cross section. The crack is an open type edge crack placed in the medium of the beam and it is uniform along the width of the beam. The cracked beam rests on an elastic foundation. The beam is modeled by two different beam theories, which are Euler-Bernoulli be...
Multiscale Modeling of Thin-Wire Coupling Problems Using Hybridization of Finite Element and Dipole Moment Methods and GPU Acceleration
ÖZGÜN, ÖZLEM; Mittra, Raj; Kuzuoğlu, Mustafa (2020-01-01)
In this article, a hybrid numerical method, called finite element method (FEM) + dipole moment (DM), is presented for efficient solution of multiscale electromagnetic radiation and scattering problems that involve structures with fine features, such as thin-wire antennas or objects. In this method, the FEM is hybridized with the DM approach to help ease certain computational burdens, such as mesh refinement, ill-conditioning, memory overload, and long computation times, when solving multiscale problems with...
