© 2018 Boğaziçi Üniversitesi Yayınevi, İstanbul.Connectives present an interesting phenomenon; while even 3-year-olds can produce them accurately, the real mastery of understanding their meaning takes much time in language acquisition. Despite its allure, studies focusing on connective acquisition are limited in number, especially in Turkish. In order to investigate the developmental path of different Turkish connectives, we tested the comprehension of temporal, causal, and adversative connectives in 184 Turkish-speaking primary-school children and 20 Turkish-speaking adults. Our results demonstrated that high-achieving 5-graders show an adult-like performance. Regarding the type of the connective, temporal connectives posed greater challenge for children compared to causal and adversative connectives. The questions were more challenging for all groups (but especially for 3rd graders and low-achieving 5th graders) when they require a backward temporal connective (before that) as the correct answer or include object-referred clauses. We explain these results in light of the multi-dimensional account of connective acquisition.

A Comparative Study on the Hyperelastic Constitutive Models for Rubber
Dal, Hüsnü (2018-10-25)
This paper presents a novel approach for comparison of constitutive models forrubber. Model parameters are identified by simultaneous fitting of a given data of a set ofhomogeneous experiments (uniaxial tension, equibiaxial tension, and pure shear, Figure 1) bymultiobjective optimization. Using these parameters, fitting error can be calculated. In thisstudy, however, quality of fit parameter, which represents the amount of error normalized bythe data, is calculated for unbiased comparison of models. 40 diff...

In this study, we report the synthesis of a novel heteroleptic Ru(II)-sensitizer, (Ru(2,2'-bipyridine-4,4'dicarboxylic acid)-4,4'-bis(4-piperidin-1-yl) phenyl ethenyl)-(2,2'-bipyridine) (NCS)(2), denoted as SD-1; moreover, its photophysical, electrochemical, and photovoltaic performances were compared with those of N719 and K77-7 (N, N'-diaryl Ru-sensitizer, namely Ru(2,2'-bipyridine-4,4'-dicarboxylic-acid)4,4'- bis(2-(4-N, N'-diphenylaminophenyl) ethenyl)-2,2'-bipyridine (NCS) 2). A parametric modeling study on distributed MEMS transmission lines
Unlu, M; Topalli, K; Demir, S; Aydın Çivi, Hatice Özlem; Koc, S; Akın, Tayfun (2004-10-14)
This paper presents a parametric study of a new model for the distributed MEMS transmission line (DMTL) structures. In this new model, the MEMS bridges which are used as the loading elements of the DMTL structures are represented as low-impedance transmission lines, rather than a lumped CLR circuit. The model also includes LC networks at the transition points from the MEMS bridges to the unloaded parts of the DMTL which are simply high-impedance transmission lines. These LC networks are employed to model th...
A theoretical study of chemical doping and width effect on zigzag graphene nanoribbons
Pekoz, Rengin; Erkoç, Şakir (Elsevier BV, 2009-12-01)
The energetics and the electronic properties of nitrogen- and boron-doped graphene nanoribbons with zigzag edges have been investigated using density functional theory calculations. For the optimized geometry configurations, vibrational frequency analysis and wavefunction stability tests have been carried out. Different doping site optimizations for a model nanoribbon have been performed and formation energy values of these sites revealed that zigzag edgesite for both of the dopants were the most favorable ...
A reactive transport benchmark on modeling biogenic uraninite re-oxidation by Fe(III)-(hydr)oxides

A reactive transport benchmark on uranium (U) bioreduction and concomitant reoxidation has been developed based on the multicomponent biogeochemical reaction network presented by Spycher et al. (Geochim Cosmochim Acta 75:4426-4440, 2011). The benchmark problem consists of a model inter-comparison starting with the numerical simulations of the original batch experiments of Sani et al. (Geochim Cosmochim Acta 68:2639-2648, 2004). The batch model is then extended to 1D and 2D reactive transport models, designe...
