Circular arrays of log-periodic antennas for broadband applications

2006-11-10
Circular arrays of log-periodic (LP) antennas are designed for broadband applications. A sophisticated electromagnetic simulation environment involving integral equations and fast solvers is developed to analyze the LP arrays both accurately and efficienuy. The resulting matrix equation obtained by the discretization of the electric field integral equation is solved iteratively via the multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA). Genetic algorithms interacting with MLFMA is employed to optimize the excitations of the array elements to increase the frequency independence and also to add the beam-steering ability to the arrays.

Wideband omnidirectional and sector coverage antenna arrays for base stations
Alatan, Lale (2018-01-01)
By using parallel strip line fed printed dipole antennas as array elements, an omnidirectional antenna array and a wide angle sector coverage array operating in octave band are designed. A maximum deviation of ±1.25 dB from the omnidirectional pattern is achieved for the omnidirectional array, and the average gain of the antenna was measured as being 5 dB in the 1.35–2.7GHz band. For the sector coverage array, a special reflector design is utilized to maintain a half power beam width of around 115◦ with a s...

We consider fast and efficient optimizations of arrays involving three-dimensional antennas with arbitrary shapes and geometries. Heuristic algorithms, particularly genetic algorithms, are used for optimizations, while the required solutions are carried out accurately and efficiently via the multilevel fast multipole algorithm(MLFMA). The superposition principle is employed to reduce the number of MLFMA solutions to the number of array elements per frequency. The developed mechanism is used to optimize arra...

We present optimizations of three-dimensional antenna arrays using heuristic techniques coupled with the multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA). Without resorting to any periodicity and infinity assumptions, antenna arrays are modeled with surface integral equations and simulated via MLFMA, which also enables the analysis of arrays with non-identical elements. Genetic algorithms and particle swarm optimization methods are employed on the complex data produced by MLFMA in phasor domain to find optimal s...

We present optimizations of patch antenna arrays using genetic algorithms and highly accurate full-wave solutions of the corresponding radiation problems with the multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA). Arrays of finite extent are analyzed by using MLFMA, which accounts for all mutual couplings between array elements efficiently and accurately. Using the superposition principle, the number of solutions required for the optimization of an array is reduced to the number of array elements, without resorti...

In smart antenna systems, mutual coupling between elements can significantly degrade the processing algorithms [1]. In this paper mutual coupling effects on Modified Neural Multiple Source Tracking Algorithm (MN-MUST) has been studied. MN-MUST algorithm applied to the Uniform Circular Array (UCA) geometry for the first time. The validity of MN-MUST algorithm in the presence of mutual coupling has been proved for both Uniform Linear Array (ULA) and UCA. Simulation results of MN-MUST algorithm are provided fo...
