Remote sensing techniques are widely used in earth sciences. Satellites and manned aircrafts are most common method for capturing remote sensing images. However, these techniques have some major disadvantages such as, high price, low image resolution, time restriction. Amphibious Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (A-UAV) is designed to integrate remote sensing measurement sensors to a Mini-UAV [Mutlu, 2012]. It can perform a 30 minutes of flight with 1 kg payload and 4 kg maximum take-off weight (MOTW). Main performance characteristics of A-UAV such as maximum velocity, rateof-climb, and turn radius have been investigated [Mutlu, 2013]. This paper presents the dynamic stability tests of A-UAV. Sensor calibration curves are obtained before the tests via horseshoe and tower fly by methods. Dynamic stability tests focus on exciting longitudinal and lateral-directional modes -phugoid, short period; dutch roll, spiral and roll- of the A-UAV. Convergence characteristics of each mode are investigated during the tests.

Thermal Infrared Hyperspectral Dimension Reduction Experiment Results For Global And Local Information Based Linear Discriminant Analysis
Sakarya, Ufuk (2015-05-19)
Thermal infrared hyperspectral image processing has become an important research topic in remote sensing. One of the research topics in thermal infrared hyperspectral image classification is dimension reduction. In this paper, thermal infrared hyperspectral dimension reduction experiment results for global and local information based linear discriminant analysis is presented. Advantages of the use of not only global pattern information, but also local pattern information are tested in thermal infrared hyper...
Local modeling of the ionospheric vertical total electron content (VTEC) using particle filter
Aghakarimi, Armin; Karslıoğlu, Mahmut Onur; Department of Geodetic and Geographical Information Technologies (2012)
Ionosphere modeling is an important field of current studies because of its influences on the propagation of the electromagnetic signals. Among the various methods of obtaining ionospheric information, Global Positioning System (GPS) is the most prominent one because of extensive stations distributed all over the world. There are several studies in the literature related to the modeling of the ionosphere in terms of Total Electron Content (TEC). However, most of these studies investigate the ionosphere in t...
Circular Target Detection Algorithm on Satellite Images based on Radial Transformation
Zerman, Emin; Bati, Emrecan; Akar, Gözde; Baseski, Emre; Duzgun, Sebnem (2014-04-25)
Remote sensing is used in a spreading manner by many governmental and industrial institutions worldwide in recent years. Target detection has an important place among the applications developed using satellite imagery. In this paper, an original circular target detection algorithm has been proposed based on a radial transformation. The algorithm consists of three stages such as pre-processing, target detection, and post-processing. In the pre-processing stage, bilateral noise reduction filtering and vegetat...
Performance evaluation of similarity measures for dense multimodal stereovision
Yaman, Mustafa; Kalkan, Sinan (SPIE-Intl Soc Optical Eng, 2016-05-01)
Multimodal imaging systems have recently been drawing attention in fields such as medical imaging, remote sensing, and video surveillance systems. In such systems, estimating depth has become possible due to the promising progress of multimodal matching techniques. We perform a systematic performance evaluation of similarity measures frequently used in the literature for dense multimodal stereovision. The evaluated measures include mutual information (MI), sum of squared distances, normalized cross-correlat...
Computational Spectral Imaging with Photon Sieves
Öktem, Sevinç Figen; Davila, Joseph M. (2016-01-01)
Spectral imaging, the sensing of spatial information as a function of wavelength, is a widely used diagnostic technique in diverse fields such as physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, astronomy, and remote sensing. In this paper, we present a novel computational imaging modality that enables high-resolution spectral imaging by distributing the imaging task between a photon sieve system and a computer. The photon sieve system, coupled with a moving detector, provides measurements from multiple planes. Then ...
