In this paper, development of actuator load calculation tool for a rotating beam like aerospace structure structural test system is investigated. A rectangular aluminum beam is designed and used in the development procedure. This rectangular beam and the test system is modelled in a dynamic analysis software. Actuator loads are calculated by using this model results. Then, the develop tool is verified with a multiaxial test on an instrumented and calibrated rectangular aluminum beam.

Actuator load calculation tool for a multiaxial test system of a rotating beam like aerostructure
Limon, Afif Umur; Çöker, Demirkan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2018)
Design and analysis of new helicopter blades need to be verified by testing under combined multiaxial loading including centrifugal force, chord bending, beam bending and torsion loadings. In this thesis, an actuator load calculation tool for a rotating beam like aerospace structure structural test system is developed and is verified by multiaxial testing of a dummy component. The actuator load calculation tool development consists of an analysis and testing part. A dummy structural component is designed an...
Effect of ground on aerodynamics and longitudinal static stability of a non-slender delta wing
Koçak, Göktuğ; Yavuz, Mehmet Metin (2022-11-01)
© 2022 Elsevier Masson SASIn this paper, the effect of ground on aerodynamics and longitudinal static stability of a non-slender delta wing with sweep angle of 45 degree and thickness-to-chord ratio (t/c) of 5.9% was characterized at Reynolds number of 9×104 in a low-speed wind tunnel using force and pressure measurements. The measurements were conducted for angles of attack varying between 0≤α≤30 degrees and non-dimensional heights between 3%≤h/c≤107% and height stability of the wing based on aerodynamic c...
Effect of thickness-to-chord ratio on aerodynamics of non-slender delta wing
Ghazijahani, Mohammad Sharifi; Yavuz, Mehmet Metin (2019-05-01)
The effect of thickness-to-chord (t/C) ratio on aerodynamics of a non-slender delta wing with sweep angle of 45 degree is characterized in a low-speed wind tunnel using laser illuminated smoke visualization, surface pressure measurements, particle image velocimetry, and force measurements. The delta wings of t/C ratios varying from 2% to 15% with 45 degree windward beveled leading edges are tested. The results indicate that the effect of t/C ratio on flow structure is quite substantial. Considering the low ...
Effect of Flow Rate Controllers and their Opening Levels on Liquid Steel Flow in Continuous Casting Mold
Gursoy, Kadir Ali; Yavuz, Mehmet Metin (2016-01-01)
The present study investigates the mold flow structure at constant throughput condition for different slide-gate and stopper rod openings by utilizing computational fluid dynamic (CFD) modeling. Detailed validation of the CFD models are conducted using available experimental data and the performances of three different turbulence models, standard k-epsilon, realizable k-epsilon and k-omega SST are compared. The constant throughput casting operations for different slide-gate and stopper rod controller openin...
Design and construction of an interferometric setup for dynamic measurement of clearances inside plain bearings
Jafari-Tabrizi, Atae; Dursunkaya, Zafer; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2017)
In this work with the help of fiber optic interferometry an experimental framework is designed and constructed to dynamically measure micron-level clearances inside main journal bearing of an engine crankshaft, and the trajectory of its shaft. For this purpose, the crankshaft is rotated at lower speeds than its operating speeds. An electric motor is used to rotate the crankshaft, and there are no pistons and connecting rods connected to the crankpins. Measured clearances from multiple points of the bearing ...
