Cutting force estimation in end-milling plays a crucial role in the development of novel CNC technologies such as tool/process/machine condition monitoring, advanced adaptive controllers, optimization of machining process parameters etc. This paper proposes a new estimator topology which can reconstruct the unknown cutting force component utilizing the available one. The paper evaluates the estimation performance of the proposed topology through a detailed experimental study. Both the accuracy and the bandwidth of the topology are found quite sufficient for most CNC machine tool application such as tool breakage identification, process monitoring, and machine diagnostics.

A Feature Based Design Software for Parts To Be Machined in a Four-Axis CNC Lathe
Hatıpoğlu, Demıralp; Arıkan, Mehmet Ali Sahir; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2005)
A previously developed feature library and algorithm are improved in order to develop a software capable of designing of parts to be manufactured using a four-axis CNC lathe. The developed program is composed of sections which are; part geometry design, process planning, cutting tool and machining parameter selection, part program generation and G-code simulation for verification. The developed program is capable of designing parts which contain axisymetric features for turning and related operations, and n...

A LOCAL EXTREMA BASED METHOD ON 2D BRIGHTNESS TEMPERATURE MAPS FOR DETECTION OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL ARTIFACTS
SOYDAN, HİLAL; DÜZGÜN, HAFİZE ŞEBNEM; Alatan, Abdullah Aydın (2016-07-15)
Archaeological studies using computer vision based analysis methods on thermal imageries mainly lack an important stage of pointwise detection of artifact positions, which is needed for the automation of the system in a generic application. In this paper, we propose a pointwise detection method working in the thermal range of hyperspectral band for archaeological artifacts. The proposed method first optimally converts a given 3D hyperspectral image of the searched scene into a 2D brightness-temperature map ...
A New Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulator for CNC Machine Applications
USENMEZ, S.; MUTLU, B. R.; Yaman, Ulaş; KILIÇ, ERGİN; Dölen, Melik; Koku, Ahmet Buğra (2013-03-01)
This study focuses on an integrated software and hardware platform that is capable of performing (real-time/nonreal- time) hardware-in-the-loop simulation of dynamic systems, including electrical machinery, CNC machine tools. In this approach, once the dynamics of the plant to be controlled is defined via C++ language, the resulting code is cross-compiled automatically on a PC. Executable files along with the necessary drivers are downloaded onto the composite hardware platform that consists of a Field Prog...
A multitone model of complex enveloped signals and its application in feedforward circuit analysis
Coskun, AH; Mutlu, Ayşe Ceyda; Demir, S (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2005-06-01)
Analytical tools that characterize nonlinear systems are essential and need to be developed for initial rapid optimizations and understanding of the system performance. Modeling of the input signal is a crucial part of this task. In this paper, a multitone representation for an arbitrary double-side banded (symmetric spectrum around carrier frequency) stochastically not well-defined signal and its application to a feedforward circuit, which involve two nonlinear amplifiers, couplers, phase, and delay units ...
