Educational perception of the internally displaced families' children: evidence from İzmir and Diyarbakır
Arı, Esra; Hoşgör, Hatice Ayşe; Department of Sociology (2010)
Turkey experienced conflict-induced internal displacement due to the political and social unrest, in the late 1980s and during the 1990s, in East and South East Anatolia regions. The unplanned and involuntary nature of migration led internally displaced persons (IDPs), and in particular forced many Kurdish migrants’ children to poverty. Within this framework, this study aims to explore how internally displaced families’ high school attending children experience poverty in two cities, İzmir and Diyarbakir. I...

Aydıngün, Ayşegül (2004-01-01)

Kırım'da gerçekleştirilen saha araştırması verilerine dayanan makalenin temel iddiası, dil-etnik / milli kimlik ilişkisinin, dilin sembolik ve etkileşimsel boyutlarının; kimliğin ise etnik /milli ve kültürel boyutlarının birbirinden ayrılması halinde anlaşılabileceğidir. Ayrıca, makalede, vatana dönüş sonrası...

Paköz Türkeli, Ahu; Şen, Mustafa; Department of Sociology (2016)
This thesis aims to show and compare the influences of population exchange on the second and third generation 1923 Lausanne Treaty Muslim exchange migrants from Greece to Turkey, who were settled in Istanbul, Catalca area. We accepted individual’s identity, culture and value as an inextricable part of global issues and culture; and as a mutually effective process. We argued the popu...
The Evolution of National Identity and Nationalism in Azerbaijan (1900-2018)
Guliyeva, Narmin; Ergun Özbolat, Ayça; Department of Sociology (2022-9-22)
The de- and re-construction of national identity have been accelerated in Azerbaijan since the fall of the Soviet Union thanks to which Azerbaijan emerged as an independent nation-state. Azerbaijanism has been promulgated to be the main backbone of state official ideology since independence, except for a short time of Turkism. Though a quarter of a century has passed since the elites started formulating the national identity, it is still incomplete and there from time to time emerges questions about the pro...

The study aims to analyse the factors that affected Motherland Party’s policy responses to the mass refugee flows that originated in Bulgaria and Iraq between 1988 and 1991.
