Commercially used heatable textiles are generally consisting of solid metal wire like copper and stainless steel. However, this kind of textiles is easily breakdown after repeated bending cycles. Coating with nanomaterials are started to investigate to overcome this problem. As a one dimensional (1-D) nanomaterial, multi wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) have been used as conductive material [1]. Slow thermal response, due to low thermal conductivity of MWCNT between the walls is a problem. In that manner, metallic nanowires seem as a promising candidate. Recently, Cui et. al. showed that silver nanowire (Ag NW) coated fabrics are suitable for heating applications [2]. In this study, we extensively investigated the heating performance of silver nanowire coated woven cotton textiles.

Mechanical properties of Ti6Al4V parts produced by electron beam melting and topology optimization in different building directions
Temel Yiğitbaşı, Selen; Konukseven, Erhan İlhan; Gülcan, Orhan; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2018)
Titanium and its alloys are used in various industries due to their mechanical properties such as high corrosion resistance, high strength and low-density. However, utilization of parts made of titanium are limited since the lead time for raw material is long, they are hard to machine, and the machining costs are high. On the other hand, it is possible to produce complex parts with powder material by additive manufacturing techniques, and there is a growing interest in research on these new technologies. El...
A new look at oxide formation at the copper/electrolyte interface by in situ spectroscopies
Toparlı, Çiğdem; Erbe, Andreas (2015-01-01)
The widely used engineering material copper is a prototype of an electrochemically passive metal. In this work, the passive films on evaporated copper in 0.1 M NaOH are investigated in situ and operando by spectroscopic ellipsometry and Raman spectroscopy, both conducted during oxidation in potentiostatic step experiments. Oxide growth is initiated by jumping from a potential at which the surface is oxide-free to -0.1 V vs. Ag vertical bar AgCl vertical bar 3 M KCl (+0.11 V vs. standard hydrogen electrode, ...
An Electrochemical Procedure for Copper Removal from Regenerated Pickling Solutions of Steel Plants
Karakaya, Esra; Aras, Mustafa Serdal; ERDOĞAN, METEHAN; Karagul, Sedef Cift; Ersoy, Merve Kolay; Karakaya, İshak (2018-03-15)
Pickling is the treatment of metal surfaces by removing oxide layer, rust, scale, inorganic contaminants or other impurities from ferrous metals, copper or precious metals. A strong inorganic acid such as hydrochloric acid is used for plain carbon or low alloy steel pickling. When the concentration of copper in the pickling solution exceeds about 100 mg/L, reversion may take place and randomly plating of copper onto the steel strips which causes visual incompatibility occur. Furthermore, efficiency of pickl...
Fracture Toughness of Wire Arc Additive Manufactured Duplex Stainless Steel Grade 2509
Ersan, Rauf Batuhan; Gür, Cemil Hakan; Yurtışık, Koray; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2023-1)
There are two significant benefits of duplex stainless steels as being corrosion resistant and having enhanced mechanical properties. In virtue of these advantages, they are suitable for industries that deal with aggressive environments. Additive manufacturing is a promising technology as it has considerable amount of advantages. Practicality of wire arc additive manufacturing technique, which is an influential method in term of cost and deposition efficiency, for this grade was researched in this study. Th...
Zinc borate production in a batch reactor
Gürhan, Deniz; Eroğlu, İnci; Department of Chemical Engineering (2005)
Zinc borate is a flame retardant additive used in polymers, wood applications and textile products. There are different types of zinc borate having different chemical composition and structure. In this study, the production of zinc borate that had the molecular formula of 2ZnO.3B2O3.3,5H2O was studied. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of reaction parameters on the properties of zinc borate that had been synthesized by the reaction of boric acid and zinc oxide at the existence of the seed...
