The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between nomophobia and self-esteem among university students. Data of the study were collected from 1303 university students in a public university. Correlational research method was employed. Nomophobia scale (20 items-Likert scale) and self-esteem scale (10 items-Likert scale) were used to collect data. The factor structure of the scales was confirmed with Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Pearson correlation analysis was conducted to analyze the relationship between both total nomophobia scores and factor scores and self-esteem. The results showed that there was no significant correlation between nomophobia scores and self-esteem scores of university students (p > .05). Moreover, there was no significant correlation between nomophobia factor scores (not being able to access information, losing connectedness, not being able to communicate, and giving up convenience) and self-esteem scores of university students (p > .05). Considering the effect of self-esteem on technological addictions, self-esteem should be investigated as a mediator variable in nomophobia related research.

Investigating the science attitudes of students from low socioeconomic status families: The impact of problem-based learning
Secgin, Tuba; Sungur, Semra (Wiley, 2020-09-01)
This study aimed to examine the effect of the problem-based learning (PBL) on science attitudes of middle school students from low socio-economic status families. For this purpose, two intact classes of the same teacher were randomly assigned as experimental and control groups. In the unit of genetics, the experimental group was taught by PBL while the control group received traditional instruction. Students' attitudes were measured in terms of adoption of scientific attitudes, enjoyment of science lessons,...
