This study evaluates satellite-based (TMPA 3B42V7 and GPM IMERGv5) and model-based (ECMWF ERAInterim) precipitation products by using ground-based gauge stations as reference over Turkey, characterized by complex topography. Assessments of the products are performed over the nearest grids to the gauge stations (a total of 851) at daily, monthly and annual time scales. The accuracy assessments, categorical performance indices, and intensity-frequency related comparisons are performed over each station between 2014 and 2018. Analyses are conducted separately for stations classified on the bases of wetness and elevation. The results show that IMERG performs better in capturing the patterns of observed precipitation over relatively wetter regions. All three products consistently follow the observed precipitation patterns during summer, while errors increase in other seasons. All products overestimate the observed precipitation over dry regions and underestimate over wet regions, implying that the products are less sensitive to the variability in precipitation compared to the stations. Overall, the products show wet bias (overestimation) relative to station-based values; among them TMPA shows the least monthly bias (8.3 mm/month) while IMERG shows the least monthly RMSE (23.4 mm/month). The products show less errors over regions where topography is less complex, and climate is moderately dry to moderately wet. Compared to the satellite-based products, ERA-Interim bias increases with increasing elevation and shows the worst monthly bias (34.5 mm/month) at highest elevation regions. Overall, the product RMSE increases and correlation decreases in regions represented by higher elevations. Model- and satellite-based products can be a supplement to each other.

Pseudo-steady state inflow performance relationship of reservoirs undergoing multiphase flow and different wellbore conditions
Al-Rbeawi, Salam (Elsevier BV, 2019-08-01)
This paper introduces an integrated approach for the inflow performance relationship of reservoirs that undergo multiphase flow conditions and drained by vertical wells with different wellbore conditions. The main objective is eliminating uncertainties that govern predicting reservoir performance by assuming single phase flow in the porous media. The proposed approach includes developing several models for multiphase flow conditions using PVT data and relative permeability curves. These models are assembled...
Accuracy analyses of numeric weather prediction-based stratiform and convective precipitation shortterm forecasts over Turkey
Aydın, Beril; Yücel, İsmail; Yılmaz, Mustafa Tuğrul; Department of Civil Engineering (2023-1)
This study was carried out to determine whether convective and stratiform (large-scale) precipitation datasets obtained from 5 model forecast-based products would be an adequate alternative for regions where station-based observation networks are sparse. Verification of precipitation types (convective or stratified) from numerical weather forecast (NWP) models (ALARO, CFS, ECMWF HRES, GFS, WRF) is done using station-based observations. Statistical assessments between these precipitation types in different t...
Evaluation of Multiple Satellite-Based Precipitation Products over Complex Topography
DERIN, Yagmur; Yılmaz, Koray Kamil (American Meteorological Society, 2014-08-01)
This study evaluates the performance of four satellite-based precipitation (SBP) products over the western Black Sea region of Turkey, a region characterized by complex topography that exerts strong controls on the precipitation regime. The four SBP products include the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) Multisatellite Precipitation Analysis version 7 experimental near-real-time product (TMPA-7RT) and post-real-time research-quality product (TMPA-7A), the Climate Prediction Center morphing technique...
Multi-media reservoirs depleted by horizontal wells: analysis of pressure behaviours and rate transient accompanied by developing analytical models for flow regimes
Al-Rbeawi, Salam (Inderscience Publishers, 2020-01-01)
This paper focuses on analysing pressure behaviours and rate transient of multi-porous media formations such as carbonate reservoirs depleted by horizontal wells. Several analytical models (pressure transient and rate transient) have been developed using the well-known dual-porosity models for naturally fractured formations and modified for triple-media formations considering the existence of hydraulic fractures. The solutions of these models demonstrate different flow regimes corresponding to different pro...
Hydrogeochemical outline of thermal waters and geothermometry applications in Anatolia (Turkey)
Mutlu, Halim; Güleç, Nilgün Türkan (Elsevier BV, 1998-10-01)
The chemical compositions of a total of 120 thermal water samples from four different tectonically distinct regions (Central, North, East and West Anatolia) of Turkey are presented and assessed in terms of geothermal energy potential of each region through the use of chemical geothermometers. Na-Ca-HCO3, type waters are the dominant water types in all the regions except that Na-Cl type waters are typical for the coastal areas of West Anatolia and for a few inland areas of West and Central Anatolia where dee...
