Evlat edinme uygulamaları, Orta Asya göçebe Türk topluluklarında, bozkır hayatının bir gereği olarak insan gücüne duyulan ihtiyacın karşılanması ve boyun güçlenmesi, büyümesi amacıyla gerçekleştirilirdi. Düzenlenen bir törenle evlat edinilen çocuk, yalnızca, egzogami dairesinin dışından alınırdı. Modern çağın göçebe topluluklarında hâlâ izleri mevcut olan evlat edinme törenlerinin yanı sıra, yerleşik düzende yaşayan Eski Uygur Türklerinde evlat edinme ile ilgili yazılı senetler de bulunmaktadır. Bu anlamda, Eski Türklerde evlat edinme uygulamaları ile ilgili olarak bilgi edinebildiğimiz en önemli kaynaklar; muhtemel tarihlendirmesi XIII-XIV. yüzyıl olarak tespit edilen Turfan Uygurlarına ait sivil belgelerdir. Bu çalışmada, Japon araştırmacı Nobuo Yamada’nın Sammlung Uigurischer Kontrakte adlı eserinde yer alan, Ad01 referans numaralı belge ışığında, Uygurlarda evlat edinme geleneği değerlendirilmiştir.
