Characterization and enhancement of IR optical and tribological properties of DLC films synthesized by RF-PECVD
Taburoğlu, Vahit Eren; Özenbaş, Ahmet Macit; Akata Kurç, Burcu; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2017)
This thesis analyzes the hydrogenated amorphous diamond like carbon (a-DLC) films coated on aluminum substrates by the technique of plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD). Effects of film thickness, hydrogen content and RF power on the tribology, optical characteristics and structure are observed and studied in detail. DLC films have compressive intrinsic stresses by default. Surface topography revealed by an interferometer shows that too low/high compressive stress is detrimental to the film. In...
Characterization and study of solution properties of poly(propylene oxide) synthesized by metal xanthate catalysts
Tarkın, Eylem; Alyürük, Kemal; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2003)
Zinc xanthates polymerize propylene oxide into high polymer (PPO) with coordination mechanism. In order to identify structure and stereoisomerisms of this polymer, PPO was subjected to thermal and column fractionation. Obtained fractions were characterized by end-group analysis, cryoscopy, viscometry, IR and 13C-NMR spectroscopy, melting temperature. PPO is composed of a high molecular weight, stereoregular, crystallizable polymer (K-polymer) with low molecular weight (=500 g/mol) D-polymer. Presence of dou...
Characterization and Electrical Conductivity of Poly(ethylene glycol)/Polyacrylonitrile/Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube Composites
Aqeel, Salem M.; Kucukyavuz, Zuhal (Wiley, 2011-01-05)
Polymer blends based on poly(ethylene glycol), polyacrylonitrile, and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were prepared by the solvent cast technique from the dispersion of the MWNTs in the concentration range 0-3.45 wt %. The interaction of the MWNTs with the polymer blend was confirmed by a Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy study. The thermal properties of the polymer blend with the MWNTs were carried out by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). It was evident from DSC that the p...
Characterization and potential applications of immobilized glucose oxidase and polyphenol oxidase
Ekinci, Olcun; Boyukbayram, A. Elif; Kiralp, Senem; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Yagci, Yusuf (Informa UK Limited, 2007-07-01)
Pyrrole functionalized polystyrene (PStPy) was copolymerized with pyrrole to obtain a conducting copolymer, P(PStPy-co-Py) which is used as the immobilization matrix. Glucose oxidase and polyphenol oxidase enzymes were immobilized via the entrapment method by electrochemical polymerization. Enzyme electrodes were prepared by electrolysis at a constant potential using sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as the supporting electrolyte during the copolymerization of PStPy with pyrrole. Maximum reaction rates (V-max) a...
Characterization of BPN Pyrotechnic Composition Containing Micro- and Nanometer-Sized Boron Particles
Koc, Suzan; Ulaş, Abdullah; Yilmaz, Nil Ezgi (Wiley, 2015-10-01)
The effect of micro- and nanometer-sized boron particles on boron-potassium nitrate (BPN) ignition composition was investigated in this paper. As a starting point, thermochemical calculations were made to determine the most promising ignition compositions. Both stoichiometric and fuel-rich formulations of BPN were produced to observe the performance variation due to boron content. Particle morphology of boron particles and the surface structure of the ignition compositions were investigated by SEM. The infl...
