Effects of Language on Stimulus Response Contingency Learning
Atalay, Nart Bedin; Ceylan, Suzan; Mısırlısoy, Mine (2013-06-01)
In the stimulus response contingency manipulation (Schmidt et al., 2007) words are written in different colors, and participants respond to the color of the words. Responses are faster when words are associated with the colors compared to when they are not. The present study investigated the effects of language on stimulus response contingency learning. Turkish or English words were associated with colors, and participants responded either in Turkish or in English. Furthermore, responses to transfer stimuli...
Effects of Combined Peer-Teacher Feedback on Second Language Writing Development
Demirel, Elif; Enginarlar, Hüsnü (2016-10-01)
This study attempts to test the effectiveness of a feedback model which combines teacher and peer feedback systematically on improving students' writing ability in the context of a multiple draft writing course. 57 Turkish EFL students participated in the study which lasted for a 15-week semester. The experimental and control groups were provided different feedback treatments and then statistically compared in terms of the revisions they made in their essay drafts and their writing improvement. A total of 1...
EFFECTS OF VERBAL AND VISUAL FEEDBACK ON ANTICIPATION TIMING
Kirazcı, Sadettin (2013-01-01)
My purpose in this study was to examine the effect of verbal and visual feedback on an anticipation-timing task during a series of acquisition and retention trials. Participants were 48 high school students who were randomly assigned to visual-visual, visual-verbal, verbal-visual, and verbal-verbal conditions. I used a Bassin Anticipation Timer to measure coincidence-anticipation timing. Absolute error and variable error were calculated for 4 blocks of 10 trials in the acquisition phases, and 2 blocks of 10...
Effects of Graph Type in the Comprehension of Cyclic Events
Alacam, Ozge; Hohenberger, Annette Edeltraud; Çağıltay, Kürşat (2010-08-11)
This study presents an analysis of the effect of different graph types on the comprehension of cyclic events. The results indicated that although round and linear graph designs are informationally equivalent, the round graphs are computationally better suited than linear graphs for the interpretation of cyclic concepts.
Functions of autobiographical memory during mother-adolescent reminiscing and their relation to emotion regulation strategies
Elibol Pekaslan, Nur; Şahin Acar, Başak; Department of Psychology (2019)
The aim of the current study was to examine the functions of autobiographical memory (AM) during mother-adolescent reminiscing, and to investigate dyadic relationships between the functions and emotion regulation (ER) strategies with a mixed method. For the qualitative part, content analysis revealed that Self, Social, and Directive functions occurred as the main themes, and each function also included ER themes. For the quantitative part, the first aim was to examine the differences in the frequencies rega...
