Investigations on bulk glass forming ability of titanium based multicomponent alloys
Süer, Sıla; Mekhrabov, Amdulla O.; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2008)
The aim of this study is to investigate the bulk glass forming ability (BGFA) of Ti-based alloy systems. These investigations were carried out in two main parts that are complementary to each other: theoretical and experimental. For theoretical studies, which are based on electronic theory of alloys in pseudopotential approximation, Ti-Zr, Ti-Co and Ti-Cu alloys were chosen as the binary systems. Alloying element additions were performed to each binary for the investigation of the BGFA of multicomponent Ti-...
Investigations on the electrochemical surface treatment of carbon fibers
Bayramli, E; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Erinc, NK (2001-01-01)
Desized polyacrylonitrile (PAN) based carbon fibers (CF) were chemically and electrochemically oxidized and reduced. CF surfaces were activated via cyclic voltammetry studies with anodic and cathodic scans. The changes in CF surfaces were studied by contact angle measurements. Lifshitz-van der Waals and acid-base components of single fibers were determined. In general, oxidation resulted in the formation of an acidic surface energy component and reduction gave rise to no change in the number of basic functi...

Investigations on nature of re-volatilization from atom trap surfaces in flame AAS
Korkmaz, D; Kumser, S; Ertas, N; Mahmut, M; Ataman, Osman Yavuz (2002-01-01)
Some experiments were designed and performed in order to elucidate the mechanism of re-volatilization in silica traps using flame AAS. A water-cooled U-shaped silica trap and a slotted silica tube trap were used, while organic solvent aspiration was employed for re-volatilization. Analytes were Bi, Au, Mn, Cd and Pb. The detailed experiments have shown that heating is not necessarily associated with re-volatilization: however, a direct contact between flame and active silica surface is required. The effect ...
