Energy consumption and income in G-7 countries
Soytaş, Uğur; Sarı, Ramazan (2006-10-01)
Several industrialized countries have signed the Kyoto Protocol, promising to reduce greenhouse gasses (GHG) emissions. To reduce or mitigate such emissions several policies including reducing energy consumption, increasing energy efficiency, decreasing energy intensity and forestation may be possible. The viability and effectiveness of each policy may differ due to country specific factors. This paper tries to assess the impact of a change in energy consumption on income and vice versa in G-7 countries. We...
Energy consumption, income, and carbon emissions in the United States
Soytaş, Uğur; Sarı, Ramazan (2007-05-15)
This paper investigates the effect of energy consumption and output on carbon emissions in the United States. Earlier research focused on testing the existence and/or shape of an environmental Kuznets curve without taking energy consumption into account. We investigate the Granger causality relationship between income, energy consumption, and carbon emissions, including labor and gross fixed capital formation in the model. We find that income does not Granger cause carbon emissions in the US in the long run...
Energy Optimality in Electric Vehicles Along Uphill-Downhill Roads
Ahiska, Kenan; Özgören, Mustafa Kemal; Leblebicioğlu, Mehmet Kemal (2021-09-01)
In this paper, an energy optimal controller is designed with torque, speed and battery constraints, and detailed sensitivity analyses are performed. The design is tested on the gross motion mathematical model of the vehicle moving on a variable-slope road in scenarios including uphill and downhill road sections of various slopes and lengths. The tests are repeated along roads with icy slopes, and the superiority of the energy optimal controller is verified for roads with low friction coefficients. A skiddin...
Energy mutual funds and oil prices
Gormus, Alper; Diltz, John David; Soytaş, Uğur (Emerald, 2018-01-01)
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the price level and volatility impacts of oil prices on energy mutual funds (EMFs). The authors also examine specific fund characteristics which might influence those interactions.
