Taguchi Design of Internal Stress and Friction Measurements during Electrodeposition
SARALOĞLU GÜLER, EBRU; Karakaya, İshak (2017-01-01)
The electroplating method is a promising alternative to produce composite plating by using dispersed fine particles in the metal plating bath. The process can be either called electro-deposition or composite deposition. The particles are trapped in the deposit during the process. Internal stress is a common problem in plated deposits that affect the performance of the coatings and may even result in adhesion problems. Hence, the amount and type (compressive or tensile) of the internal stress must be control...
Kazuo ishiguro’s postmodern hypertexts: generic reconfigurations in the remains of the day, when we were orphans, and the buried giant
Sönmez Demir, Yağmur; Öztabak Avcı, Elif; Department of English Language Teaching (2020-10-15)
This study explores to what extent, how, and why “hypertextuality” is employed in Kazuo Ishiguro’s novels The Remains of the Day (1989), When We Were Orphans (2000), and The Buried Giant (2015). These novels will be analysed as postmodern “hypertexts” reconfiguring various atavistic literary genres that were once predominant in British literature. Gérard Genette’s concept of the “hypertext” as discussed in Palimpsests: Literature in the Second Degree and Linda Hutcheon’s theory of parody will constitu...

Karatsuba-like formulae and their associated techniques
Cenk, Murat (2018-09-01)
Efficient polynomial multiplication formulae are required for cryptographic computation. From elliptic curve cryptography to homomorphic encryption, many cryptographic systems need efficient multiplication formulae. The most widely used multiplication formulae for cryptographic systems are the Karatsuba-like polynomial multiplication formulae. In this paper, these formulae and Montgomery's work yielding more efficient such formulae are introduced. Moreover, recent efforts to improve these results are discus...
The Fukushima accident was preventable
Synolakis, Costas; Kanoğlu, Utku (The Royal Society, 2015-10-28)
The 11 March 2011 tsunami was probably the fourth largest in the past 100 years and killed over 15 000 people. The magnitude of the design tsunami triggering earthquake affecting this region of Japan had been grossly underestimated, and the tsunami hit the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant (NPP), causing the third most severe accident in an NPP ever. Interestingly, while the Onagawa NPP was also hit by a tsunami of approximately the same height as Dai-ichi, it survived the event 'remarkably undamaged'....
