Gözel Durmaz, Oya; Ergut, Ferdan; Department of History (2014)
One of the foundational origins of the Turkish Republic was the drastic change in the demographic composition of Anatolia following the Balkan Wars of 1912-1913 and World War I. This change was a result of factors such as the deportation of Armenians, the exchange of populations between Turkey and Greece and the high number of deaths in successive wars. All of them greatly altered the composition of the population. The change in the demographic composition of Turkey corresponded to a significant era in Turk...

Yavuz , Yıldırım (Middle East Technical University, Faculty of Architecture, 1981)
The initial phase of nationalism in Turkish architecture is known to have covered those turbulent years between 1909-1930 that saw the fall of the Ottoman Empire as well as the dawn of the Turkish Republic. Locally known as; "The First Period of National Turkish Architecture", these two decades were to witness the fervent struggles of a set of young Turkish architects who opposed the western influences on traditional Ottoman architecture, monopolized by foreign and minority experts for the past hundred year...
