This study deals with the investigation of the rainfall-runoff relation of a watershed inWestern Black Sea Region, Turkey. The aim is to perform a hydrological assessment for a watershed located near Bartın city. The basin is very mountainous and forestry with increasing urbanization. The hydrological parameters of the basin are likely to be altering due to possible changes in climate and precipitation patterns. Land-use/cover changes owing to human activities and urbanization in the area also contributes to these conversions. Therefore, hydrologic modeling of the watershed is performed using HEC-HMS to assess the hydrologic behavior of the basin. Two storm events are applied to calibrate and validate the model. The simulations are found to be encouraging considering that these are the preliminary results of an ongoing research which is a pioneering attempt of using such model for the area.

A Case Study for Determination of Hydrological Parameters in HEC HMS In Computing Direct Runoff
Akay, Hüseyin; Baduna Koçyiğit, Müsteyde; Yanmaz, Ali Melih (null; 2016-09-23)
This study deals with the computation of the direct runoff of a precipitation pattern recorded in a watershed in Western Black Sea Region, Turkey. The aim is to perform a hydrological parameter evaluation using HEC-HMS for a basin with an outlet at Bayıryüzü stream gaging station situated close to Ulus town. The basin is highly mountainous along the rivers and forestry. The basin takes large amounts of rain all year round and the runoff of the basin flows into Ulus stream where more frequent flooding with d...
Comparison of Source Regions Affecting SO42- and NO3- Concentrations at the Eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea Atmospheres
Dogan, G.; GÜLLÜ, GÜLEN; Karakas, D.; Tuncel, G. (Bentham Science Publishers Ltd., 2010-01-01)
In this study, source regions of atmospheric sulfate and nitrate in rural areas at the Black Sea and the Mediterranean coasts of Turkey are compared. Stations on the Black Sea and Mediterranean Sea are located at Amasra and Antalya regions, respectively. Source regions of SO42- and NO3- are determined by using potential source contribution function (PSCF). Statistical significance of source regions assigned by PSCF were assured using bootstrapping with 3000 iterations. Source regions affecting sulfate and n...
Measurement of gas phase pollutants and aerosols at a mountainous site
Tuncel, Süleyman Gürdal; Ozer, U (1998-09-30)
Gas phase pollutants (O-3, NOx and SO2) suspended particulate matter (SPM), and major ions in aerosols were measured for 12 month period at a mountainous site of northwestern Turkey which is suffering from severe forest decline. Gaseous pollutants, SPM and meteorological parameters were measured in hourly basis with automated analyzers. Aerosol samples were collected daily. The long and short term trends in the concentrations of the measured parameters were investigated in order to understand the causes of ...
Study of Copepod Species from the Western Black Seain the Cruise r/v Knorr during May June 2001
Selifonova, Janet P; Shmeleva, Alexandra A; Kıdeyş, Ahmet Erkan (Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, 2008-01-01)
Results of investigation of copepod fauna in the western Black Sea are obtained in May-June 2001. 49 taxa have been found including 33 taxa that are not of the Black Sea origin. The problem of intensifi cation of process of copepod fauna Mediterranization in the Black Sea basin is discussed.
ANALYSIS OF LAND USE LAND COVER CHANGES FOR AN ABANDONED MINE SITE
Soydan, Hilal; Düzgün, Hafize Şebnem; Özdemir, Okan Bilge (2015-07-31)
The aim of this study is to the evaluate land use and the land cover changes of an abandoned coal mine in Central Anatolia. The mining activity in the region was started at 1987 and after working for 18 years, all the rights of the mine was passed to an another company which after a while the came up with no coal production since its concession was cancelled on February 2008. Unfortunately, during the life of the mine, there were no mine closure and reclamation activities on the field. There was only a limi...
