Experienced teams in several of the Black Sea regions designed a specialised study with emphasis on addressing MSFD descriptors, which demand more detailed investigations. By making use of experimental investigations or process models the BSEX team mainly aims to address 3 defined hot topics; eutrophication, invasive ctenophores, anchovy spawning areas. During the BSEX 2013 joint cruises the level of eutrophication and distribution of phytoplankton, zooplankton and impact of gelatinous zooplankton is studied and changes in the phytoplankton composition are addressed with respect to decreased concentrations of certain micronutrients (such as silica and phosphorus). Temporal levels in the concentration of invasive ctenophores and their impact on native zooplankton and especially on fish are updated. Modern spawning areas most abundant fish is investigated by sampling eggs and larvae of anchovy during the peak spawning seasons.

Black Sea Hydrate Formation Conditions of Methane Hydrogen Sulfide Mixtures
Bulbul, S.; Parlaktuna, Mahmut; Mehmetoglu, T.; Karabakal, U. (Informa UK Limited, 2014-01-01)
The objective of the study is to examine hydrate formation conditions of methane-hydrogen sulfide mixtures providing the Black Sea conditions. An experimental work is carried out by using a system that contains a high-pressure hydrate formation cell with different H2S concentrations and both brine and distilled water. Hydrate equilibrium conditions, the number of moles of free gas in the hydrate formation cell, and rate of hydrate formation are determined. Effects of H2S concentration on the hydrate formati...
Offshore Wind Power Plant Site Selection Using Analytical Hierarchy Process for Northwest Turkey
Caceoğlu, Eray; Yıldız, Hatice Kübra; Oğuz, Elif; Huvaj Sarıhan, Nejan; Guerrero, Josep M. (2022-04-01)
This study presents a quantitative methodology for offshore wind power plant site selection in Northwest Turkey usingGeographical Information Systems(GIS) andAnalytical Hierarchy Process, which is one of the Multi-Criteria Decision Making methods. A comprehensive literature review is conducted to identify more than 17 site selection criteria and required GIS data were collected accordingly. Site selection criteria are classified as decision and exclusion criteria. Decision criteria along with their suitable...

State-led catch-up: Chinese telecom equipment industry
Emiroğlu, Ali Ulaş; Erdil, Erkan; Geray, Haluk; Department of Science and Technology Policy Studies (2014)
The aim of this dissertation is to investigate an alternative policy to the neoliberal development policy suggestion in the scope of the high-technology industrial catch-up of the latecomers with testing the hypothesis of “Chinese telecom equipment industry’s catch-up is the success of the guidance of the state and the state-led development policies.” In this policy, the state’s active and interventionist role is suggested in all phases of the catch-up. It is a triple system of state, foreign investment, an...
