Electrokinetically Driven Flows in Microchannels and Capillaries

2006-01-01
This paper aims to provide an introduction to electrokinetically driven flows in microchannel and capillaries for the novice. Basic definitions and the terminology used in electro-osmosis and electrophoresis are summarized. Equations for the Poisson-Boltzman model of the Electric Double Layer are presented. Previous theoretical, numerical and experimental studies are reviewed.

Thickness analysis of thin films by energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy
Canlı, Sedat; Turan, Raşit; Akata Kurç, Burcu; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2010)
EDS is a tool for quantitative and qualitative analysis of the materials. In electron microscopy, the energy of the electrons determines the depth of the region where the X-rays come from. By varying the energy of the electrons, the depth of the region where the X-rays come from can be changed. If a thin film is used as a specimen, different quantitative ratios of the elements for different electron energies can be obtained. Unique thickness of a specific film on a specific substrate gives unique energy-rat...
Multipath Characteristics of Frequency Diverse Arrays Over a Ground Plane
Cetintepe, Cagri; Demir, Şimşek (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2014-07-01)
This paper presents a theoretical framework for an analytical investigation of multipath characteristics of frequency diverse arrays (FDAs), a task which is attempted for the first time in the open literature. In particular, transmitted field expressions are formulated for an FDA over a perfectly conducting ground plane first in a general analytical form, and these expressions are later simplified under reasonable assumptions. Developed formulation is then applied to a uniform, linear, continuous-wave opera...
Multimodal video database modeling, querying and browsing
Durak, N; Yazıcı, Adnan (2005-01-01)
In this paper, a multimodal video indexing and retrieval system, MMVIRS, is presented. MMVIRS models the auditory, visual, and textual sources of video collections from a semantic perspective. Besides multimodality, our model is constituted on semantic hierarchies that enable us to access the video from different semantic levels. MMVIRS has been implemented with data annotation, querying and browsing parts. In the annotation part, metadata information and video semantics are extracted in hierarchical ways. ...
Nanocluster formation and stabilization fundamental studies: Ranking commonly employed anionic stabilizers via the development, then application, of five comparative criteria
Özkar, Saim (2002-05-01)
To start, a brief introduction is provided on the importance of transition-metal nanoclusters, on the need to develop and then apply methods to rank the nanocluster formation and then stabilizing abilities of commonly employed anions, solvents, cations, and polymers, and on the somewhat confused literature of nanocluster stabilization. The fundamental importance of surface-adsorbed anions in transition-metal nanocluster stabilization is noted, the reason the present studies begin with a study of nanocluster...
Passive damping and seismic isolation steel devices with displacement-dependent hardening
Dicleli, Murat (null; 2018-02-02)
In this paper, a summary of analytical and experimental studies into the behaviour of a new hysteretic damper and a seismic isolator designed for seismic protection of structures is presented. The Multi-directional Torsional Hysteretic Damper (MRSD) and its isolator version MARTI (Multi-Directional Adaptive Torsional Isolator) are patented inventions in which a symmetrical arrangement of identical cylindrical steel cores is so configured as to yield in torsion while the structure experiences planar movement...
