Upper Permian marine carbonates are distinguished in two contrasting biofacies belts in Turkey. The Southern Biofacies Belt, represented by low-energy inner platform deposits of the Tauride Belt and the Arabian Platform, is rich in algae and smaller foraminifera but poor in fusulines. The Kubergandian and Murgabian stages are missing, although the rest of the Upper Permian consists of monotonous, shallow-marine carbonate deposits. The extremely tectonised and fragmented Northern Biofacies Belt includes the Upper Permian of the Karakaya Orogen and outer platform or platform margin deposits of the Tauride Belt. These deposits are rich in parachomata-bearing fusulines comprising Cancellina, Verbeekina, Afghanella, Sumatrina, Neoschwagerina and Yabeina. The reconstructed biostratigraphic scheme indicates that all Upper Permian stages (KubergandianDorashamian) are present. The lateral continuity of the two biofacies belts is detected by the presence of tongues of the Northern Biofacies Belt pinching out in the Southern Biofacies Belt. Upper Permian blocks in the Karakaya Orogen display similar palaeontologic and biofacies characteristics, with the outer platform or platform margin deposits of the Taurides constituting the northernmost extension of the carbonate platform. This platform was probably facing a basin or a trough to the north. The lack of any transgressive Upper Permian deposits resting unconformably on the pre-Permian basement of the Sakarya Continent strongly suggests that such a basin was located between the Late Permian carbonate platform in the south and the basement rocks of the future Sakarya Continent in the north.

Upper Cenomanian-Lower Campanian Derdere and Karababa formations in the Cemberlitas oil field, southeastern Turkey: their microfacies analyses, depositional environments, and sequence stratigraphy
Mülayim, Oğuz; Mancini, Ernest; Çemen, İbrahim; Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer (2016-01-01)
The frontal belt of the southeastern Anatolia fold-thrust belt in Turkey contains several small to mid-size oilfields, producing from carbonate reservoirs of the Cretaceous Mardin group. Many of these fields are found along narrow, asymmetrical anticlinal structures, associated with the formation of the fold-thrust belt. The emberlitas oil field in Adiyaman, southeastern Turkey, is one of the most important oilfields in the region. It produces from the Upper Cretaceous Derdere and Karababa formations of the...
Early Cambrian back-arc volcanism in the western Taurides, Turkey: implications for rifting along the northern Gondwanan margin
Gursu, S; Göncüoğlu, Mehmet Cemal (2005-09-01)
The Lower Cambrian (Tommotian) Gogebakan Formation in western Central Anatolia is made up of slightly metamorphosed continental to shallow marine elastic rocks with pillowed and massive spilitic lavas and dolerite dykes. Spilitic lavas, commonly amygdaloidal, are albite-and pyroxene-phyric with the metamorphic mineral paragenesis albite + calcite + sericite +/- epidote +/- tremolite +/- chlorite. Dolerite dykes mainly include plagioclase and pyroxene as primary minerals and tremolite epidote chlorite as low...
Cyclostratigraphy and sequence boundaries of inner platform mixed carbonate-siliciclastic successions (Barremian-Aptian) (Zonguldak, NW Turkey)
Yılmaz, İsmail Ömer; Altıner, Demir (2007-04-20)
Barremian-Aptian shallow marine mixed carbonate-siliciclastic successions of the Zonguldak area (NW Turkey) have been studied in detail along three measured stratigraphic sections. Field and laboratory analysis of microfacies and sedimentary structures have demonstrated that sections are composed of meter-scale shall owing-upward cycles. Cyclicity of shallow water mixed carbonate-siliciclastic successions are generally observed in the form of alternating sandstone/siltstone or sandy limestone and limestone....
Cyclostratigraphy and sequence boundaries of inner platformmixed carbonate siliciclastic successions Barremian Aptian Zonguldak NW Turkey

Tectono-stratigraphic evolution of the continental miocene basins in Southwest Anatolia
Koç, Ayten; Kaymakcı, Nuretdin; Van Hinsbergen, Douwe J. J.; Department of Geological Engineering (2013)
The Tauride range in southern Turkey is flanked and overlain by Neogene sedimentary basins. To the south and on top of the high range, these basins are mainly marine, whereas poorly studied intra-montane basins dominated by continental deposits are exposed to the north. In this study, the stratigraphy and structure of these continental basins which includes Altınapa, Yalvaç and Ilgın Basins are studied. Their stratigraphy of these basins displays poorly expressed fining upwards sequences of fluvio-lacustrin...
