An Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) reader accompanying a sample changer unit for multi-sample measurements was designed and constructed so that consecutive automated luminescence measurements can be performed. The reader was realized using open source software and hardware to minimize the development costs. The core control system of the reader is an open source single-board microcontroller (Arduino DUE). The control of sample positioning mechanism, stimulation system, precise timing and photon counting are accomplished using entirely this board. A user friendly measurement control software was written in an open-source programming language (Python) so that it can be run on any platform. The stimulation system utilizes a high power light emitting diode in the visible region and was designed to enable the commonly used stimulation modes known as continuous wave and linearly modulated OSL. The system went through operation testing with materials commonly used for dosimetry and dating studies and showed that it is accurate for luminescence measurement.

Design of attitude estimation algorithms for inertial sensors only measurement scenarios
Candan, Batu; Söken, Halil Ersin; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2022-3-24)
This thesis proposes four novel robust Kalman filter algorithms for attitude estimation using only the measurements of an inertial measurement unit. Efficiency and optimality of the Kalman filter based attitude filters are correlated with appropriate tuning of the covariance matrices. Manual tuning process is a difficult and time-consuming task. Specifically, the inertial measurement unit-only attitude estimation filters are prone to the external accelerations unless their covariances are adapted to gain ro...
Design and development of a complex shear modulus measurement setup for viscoelastic materials
Özgen, Gökhan Osman (2005-01-01)
Details of the design and development study of a complex shear modulus measurement setup for viscoelastic materials have been presented in this paper. The new setup is specifically designed for measuring the complex shear modulus of pressure sensitive adhesives. The setup consists of a rigid block that is connected to a rigid fixture through two identical shear specimens of the viscoelastic material to be tested. The rigid block and the shear specimens resemble a single degree of freedom system. Once the fr...
Design and Optimization of an Electromagnetic Micro Energy Scavenger with Parylene Cantilevers
Sarı, İbrahim; Balkan, Raif Tuna; Külah, Haluk (2007-11-29)
This paper presents the design, optimization, and implementation of an electromagnetic micro energy scavenger that uses an array of parylene cantilevers on which planar coils are fabricated. The coils are connected electrically in series to increase the voltage that is generated by virtue of the relative motion between the coils and the magnet. A detailed mathematical modeling and optimization of the design for various cases are carried out.
Performance of CMS hadron calorimeter timing and synchronization using test beam, cosmic ray, and LHC beam data
Chatrchyan, S.; et. al. (IOP Publishing, 2010-03-01)
This paper discusses the design and performance of the time measurement technique and of the synchronization systems of the CMS hadron calorimeter. Time measurement performance results are presented from test beam data taken in the years 2004 and 2006. For hadronic showers of energy greater than 100 GeV, the timing resolution is measured to be about 1.2 ns. Time synchronization and out-of-time background rejection results are presented from the Cosmic Run At Four Tesla and LHC beam runs taken in the Autumn ...
