Adaptive robust attitude controller design for a quadrotor platform
Yılmaz, Emre; Kutay, Ali Türker; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2014)
This thesis includes attitude controller design ideas for a quadrotor platform which can be regarded as an exceptionally agile flying robot with highly nonlinear and unstable features in flight dynamics. These platforms pose severe problems in characterizing the dynamics especially when performing high-speed manoeuvres. These facts cause the quad-rotor not to lose its popularity as a compelling tool among avid researchers who endeavour to realize various controller ideas. The procedure in this thesis is ini...

Adaptive longitudinal control of aircraft using synthetic jets
Muse, Jonathan A.; Kutay, Ali Türker; Calise, Anthony J. (2007-01-01)
This paper presents an adaptive control approach for controlling the longitudinal dynamics of a generic lifting surface using imbedded flow control actuators. Such actuators offer a unique opportunity for rapid maneuvering and gust rejection with low power consumption. The model's state is controlled over a broad range of angles of attack and model dynamic characteristics when the baseline flow is fully attached using bi-directional pitching moment that is effected by flow-controlled trapped vorticity conce...
Adaptive controller applications for rotary wing aircraft models of varying simulation fidelity
Tarımcı, Onur; Yavrucuk, İlkay; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2009)
This thesis concerns the design, analysis and testing of adaptive controllers for rotary wing aircraft, in particular helicopters. A non-linear helicopter model is developed and validated by trim and dynamic response analyses. A inner-outer loop cascade controller is designed with a trajectory generator in the most outer layer and an adaptive neural network controller is implemented to the inner loop. Controller is then challenged to carry out complex maneuvers autonomously under turbulence. Finally, the ce...
