Thermal degradation of polysiloxane and polyetherester containing benzoxazine moieties in the main chain
Bagherifam, Shahla; Kışkan, Barış; Aydogan, Binnur; Yagci, Yusuf; Hacaloğlu, Jale (2011-01-01)
In this study investigation of thermal characteristics of polysiloxane and polyetherester containing benzoxazine moieties in the main chain was performed via pyrolysis mass spectrometry. Pyrolysis mass spectrometry analyses revealed that the thermal stability and the extent of cross-linking enhanced when the benzoxazine moieties were separated by thermally more stable units such as siloxanes. However, when the siloxane chain units were long, possibility of polybenzoxazine growth decreased significantly and ...
Thermal degradation of polycarbonate, poly(vinyl acetate) and their blends
Uyar, Tamer; Tonelli, Alan E.; Hacaloğlu, Jale (2006-12-01)
We have recently developed a novel approach for intimately mixing thermodynamically incompatible polymers, which utilizes the formation of inclusion compounds (ICs) formed with host cyclodextrins (CDs), followed by removal of CD and coalescence of the common guest polymers into a blend. In this paper direct insertion probe pyrolysis mass spectrometry (DIP-MS) analyses of polycarbonate (PC), poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) and PC/PVAc blends, obtained by coalescence from their inclusion compounds formed with host...
Thermal degradation of poly(allyl methacrylate) by mass spectroscopy and TGA
Vardareli, Tugba Kantav; Keskin, Selda; Usanmaz, Ali (Informa UK Limited, 2006-10-01)
Allyl methacrylate, AMA was polymerized in CCl4 solution by alpha,alpha'-azoisobutyronitrile at 50 degrees C. The thermal degradation mechanism of PAMA was characterized by MS, TGA-FT-IR and FT-IR-ATR methods. The mass spectrum and TGA thermogram showed two stage degradation. The first stage of degradation was mostly linkage type degradation for the fragmentation of pendant allyl groups at 225 - 350 degrees C. In the second stage, at 395 - 515 degrees C, the degradation is random scission and depolymerizati...

THERMAL POLYMERIZATION OF BIS(TRIHALOPHENOXO)COPPER(II) COMPLEXES IN EXCESS DIMETHYLFORMAMIDE AND DIMETHYL-SULFOXIDE AS LIGANDS
KISAKUREK, D; SANLI, O (1989-08-01)
Thermal decomposition of bis(trihalophenoxo)copper(II) complexes was achieved at 50°C in dimethylformamide or dimethyl sulfoxide. The resulting polymers, poly(oxydihalophenylene)s (2), were characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy and by differential scanning calorimetry. The molecular weights were determined by the vapour pressure method. Tribrominated phenol derivatives prefer 1,4‐substitution, whereas with trichlorophenol derivatives 1,2‐and 1,4‐substitutions take place at equal rates in ei...
