Closed-loop aerodynamic flow control of a free airfoil
Brzozowski, Daniel P.; Culp, John R.; Kutay, Ali Türker; Muse, Jonathan A.; Glezer, Ari (null; 2008-12-01)
Transitory flow arising from the dynamic response of a free-moving airfoil model to commanded pitch and plunge maneuvers is investigated in wind tunnel experiments. The airfoil is mounted on a 2-DOF traverse and its trim and dynamic characteristics are controlled using position and attitude feedback loops that are actuated by servo motors. Commanded maneuvers are achieved without moving control surfaces using bi-directional changes in the pitching moment over a range of angles of attack that are effected by...
Open-loop reverse logistics network design of waste of electric and electronic equipment by consideration of hazardous materials
Mohammadi Aydenlu, Tannaz; Süral, Haldun; Department of Industrial Engineering (2019)
In developed countries, technology has become an inseparable part of people’s lives. While it is changing in a rapid pace, people are intensely eager to own its latest versions. This insatiable demand for technological equipment results in creating the world’s fastest-growing waste stream called “Waste of Electrical and electronic equipment(WEEE)”. Due to limited resources of the materials used in the components of WEEE and the risk that is exposed to the environment caused by some hazardous material includ...
Open-Ended Tasks Promote Creativity in Minecraft
Fan, Yue; Lane, H. Chad; Delialioğlu, Ömer (2022-01-01)
Due in part to its flexibility and open design, the video game Minecraft has emerged as a popular tool for teaching and learning. Inspired by prior research showing the influence of problem-solving mindsets in physical settings, this study is an effort to understand the extent to which an open-ended task influences subsequent problem-solving behaviors in a virtual environment. Specifically, we investigate creativity and its relationship with task design in Minecraft by comparing a well-defined task group, i...
Wet Spun Scaffolds of PHA PLA Blend for Bone Tissue Engineering

Wet spun PCL scaffolds for tissue engineering
Malikmammadov, Elbay; Hasırcı, Nesrin; Endoğan Tanır, Tuğba; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2017)
Scaffolds produced for tissue engineering applications are promising alternatives to be used in healing and regeneration of injured tissues and organs. In this study, fibrous poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) scaffolds were prepared by wet spinning technique and modified by addition of β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) and by immobilizing gelatin onto fibers. Meanwhile, gelatin microspheres carrying Ceftriaxone sodium (CS), a model antibiotic, were added onto the scaffolds and antimicrobial activity of CS was investi...
