Preliminary results from the North Anatolian Fault Passive Seismic Experiment Seismicity and anisotropy
Biryol, C. Berk; Özacar, Atilla Arda; Beck, Susan L.; Zandt, George (2006-12-11)
The North Anatolian Fault (NAF) is one of the world's largest continental strike-slip faults. Despite much geological work at the surface, the deep structure of the NAF is relatively unknown. The North Anatolian Fault Passive Seismic Experiment is mainly focused on the lithospheric structure of this newly coalescing continental transform plate boundary. In the summer of 2005, we deployed 5 broadband seismic stations near the fault to gain more insight on the background seismicity, and in June 2006 we deploy...
Preliminary Geochemical Data for the Diabase Dykes from theIzmir-Ankara-Erzincan Suture Belt, Central Anatolia
Balcı, Uğur; Sayıt, Kaan (2017-04-23)
The Izmir-Ankara-Erzincan Suture Belt preserves oceanic and continental fragments originated from the closure of the northern branch of Neotethys. In the Bogazkale area (Central Anatolia), the pieces of the Neotethyan oceanic lithosphere exist in a chaotic manner, forming an ophiolitic mélange. Within the mélange, diabase dykes occur, which are found to cut various types of oceanic lithospheric rocks, including pillow basalts, gabbros and serpentinized ultramafics. We here present the preliminary geochemica...

The AZT-22 telescope installed in Turkey (Antalia) was aligned and tested on stars by the Hartmann method. The rms normal deviation of an equivalent optical system is 0.040 +/- 0.016 mum. The circle of confusion is 0.40 +/- 0.04 arcsec in diameter at a 50% energy level. (C) 2001 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".
Preliminary estimation of the tsunami hazards associated with the Makran subduction zone at the northwestern Indian Ocean
Heidarzadeh, Mohammad; Pirooz, Moharram D.; Zaker, Nasser H.; Yalçıner, Ahmet Cevdet (2009-02-01)
We present a preliminary estimation of tsunami hazard associated with the Makran subduction zone (MSZ) at the northwestern Indian Ocean. Makran is one of the two main tsunamigenic zones in the Indian Ocean, which has produced some tsunamis in the past. Northwestern Indian Ocean remains one of the least studied regions in the world in terms of tsunami hazard assessment. Hence, a scenario-based method is employed to provide an estimation of tsunami hazard in this region for the first time. The numerical model...
