Having high thermal conductivity and high strength copper alloys can be used as structural material in various applications such as thrust chamber of liquid rocket engine, nuclear reactor and electromechanical launch systems requiring high heat flux transfer. To improve mechanical properties without losing the thermal conductivity precipitation and dispersion strengthening mechanism can be applied. In this paper some selected high strength copper alloys used under extreme temperature environments were discussed in terms of their both room and elevated temperature mechanical and physical properties.

High temperature microstructural stability and recrystallization mechanisms in 14YWT alloys
Aydoğan Güngör, Eda; Takajo, S.; Vogel, S. C.; Maloy, S. A. (Elsevier BV, 2018-04-01)
In-situ neutron diffraction experiments were performed on room temperature compressed 14YWT nanostructured ferritic alloys at 1100 degrees C and 1150 degrees C to understand their thermally activated static recrystallization mechanisms. Existence of a high density of Y-Ti-O rich nano-oxides ( and {112} texture components during annealing, in contrast to the conventional recrystallization textures in body centered cubic alloys. Furthermore, nano-oxide size, shape, density and distribution are considerably di...
High temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cells
Ergün, Dilek; Eroğlu, İnci; Department of Chemical Engineering (2009)
It is desirable to increase the operation temperature of proton exchange membrane fuel cells above 100oC due to fast electrode kinetics, high tolerance to fuel impurities and simple thermal and water management. In this study; the objective is to develop a high temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cell. Phosphoric acid doped polybenzimidazole membrane was chosen as the electrolyte material. Polybenzimidazole was synthesized with different molecular weights (18700-118500) by changing the synthesis condi...
Optimization of chemical vapor deposition process parameters for aluminizing
Ertürk, Umutcan; İmer, Muhsine Bilge (2016-08-01)
Ni-based super alloys such as Inconel 738LC, MAR-M-200, CMSX-4 are used in the hot sections of industrial gas turbines due to their excellent mechanical strength and creep resistance at high service temperatures. To protect turbine blades from thermo-mechanical failure, oxidation/corrosion resistant coatings are necessary to extend the life time. For this purpose, diffusion coatings including chromized, siliconized, aluminide coatings have been studied by different groups. Among them, aluminide coatings are...
High sensitivity and multifunctional micro-Hall sensors fabricated using InAlSb/InAsSb/InAlSb heterostructures
BANDO, M; OHASHİ, T; Dede, M.; Akram, R.; Oral, Ahmet; Park, S. Y.; SHİBASAKİ, I; HANDA, H; SANDHU, A (AIP Publishing, 2009-04-01)
Further diversification of Hall sensor technology requires development of materials with high electron mobility and an ultrathin conducting layer very close to the material's surface. Here, we describe the magnetoresistive properties of micro-Hall devices fabricated using InAlSb/InAsSb/InAlSb heterostructures where electrical conduction was confined to a 30 nm-InAsSb two-dimensional electron gas layer. The 300 K electron mobility and sheet carrier concentration were 36 500 cm(2) V(-1) s(-1) and 2.5 x 10(11)...
Low temperature crystallization of amorphous silicon by gold nanoparticle
Karaman, M.; AYDIN, MURAT; Sedani, S. H.; ERTÜRK, KADİR; Turan, Raşit (Elsevier BV, 2013-08-01)
Single crystalline Si thin film fabricated on glass substrate by a process called Solid Phase Crystallization (SPC) is highly desirable for the development of high efficiency and low cost thin film solar cells. However, the use of ordinary soda lime glass requires process temperatures higher than 600 degrees C. Crystallization of Si film at around this temperature takes place in extremely long time exceeding 20 h in most cases. In order to reduce this long process time, new crystallization techniques such a...
