Experimental observations of intersonic crack growth in asymmetrically loaded unidirectional composite plates
Çöker, Demirkan (2001-01-01)
Some recent experimental observations of highly dynamic crack growth events in thick unidirectional composites are presented. The specimens used in this study were 48-ply thick unidirectional graphite-epoxy composite plates which were either symmetrically (mode I) or asymmetrically (mode II) loaded by impact in a one-point bend configuration with an edge pre-notch machined in the fibre direction. Moderate impact speeds of up to 57 m s(-1) were used. The lateral shearing interferometric technique of coherent...
Experimental determination of transfer functions for a car body-in-white
Şentürk, Sabri; Ünlüsoy, Yavuz Samim; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2004)
Vibration generated from various sources (engine, road surface, tires, exhaust, etc.) should be considered in the design of a car body. These vibrations travel through transfer systems (drivetrain, suspension, body, etc.) to the steering wheel, seats and other areas where it is detected by the passengers of the vehicle. Transmission routes must be studied and efforts made to keep transfer systems from amplifying vibration and to absorb it instead. Since the superior vibration transfer system is the car body...
Experimental determination of hydrodynamic dispersion coefficients for heavy metals using compacted clay
Camur, MZ; Yazıcıgil, Hasan (2001-07-27)
Mass transport of ions through the Ankara clay liner, which was prepared under three different compaction conditions, was studied experimentally on the basis of sorption, advection and hydrodynamic dispersion processes. Under optimum compaction conditions, effective porosity and hydraulic conductivity of the material were 0.32 and 0. 13-0.26 x 10(-8) cm s(-1), respectively. Effective diffusion coefficients of Cd, Cl, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn ions were, respectively, 2.54, 9.51, 2.22, 2.85, 2.22,...
Experimental Determination of the Absorption Cross-Section and Molar Extinction Coefficient of Colloidal CdSe Nanoplatelets
Yeltik, Aydan; Delikanli, Savas; Olutas, Murat; Keleştemur, Yusuf; Guzelturk, Burak; Demir, Hilmi Volkan (2015-11-01)
There has been a strong interest in solution-processed two-dimensional nanomaterials because of their great potential in optoelectronics. Here, the absorption cross-section and molar extinction coefficient of four and five monolayer thick colloidal CdSe nanoplatelets (NPLs) having various lateral sizes are reported. The absorption cross-section of these NPLs and their corresponding molar extinction coefficients are found to strongly depend on the lateral area. An excellent agreement is observed between the ...
