All-optical switching of a microcavity repeated at terahertz rates

We have repeatedly and reproducibly switched a GaAs-AlAs planar microcavity operating in the "original" telecom band by exploiting the virtually instantaneous electronic Kerr effect. We achieve repetition times as fast as 300 fs, thereby breaking the terahertz modulation barrier. The rate of the switching in our experiments is only determined by optics and not by material-related relaxation. Our results offer opportunities for fundamental studies of cavity quantum electrodynamics and optical information pro...
All Solution-Based Fabrication of Copper Oxide Thin Film/Cobalt-Doped Zinc Oxide Nanowire Heterojunctions
AKSOY, FUNDA; AKGÜL, GÜVENÇ; Turan, Raşit; Ünalan, Hüsnü Emrah (2016-07-01)
Versatile and intriguing solution-based processes are utilized to synthesize nanostructured materials for device applications to reduce material production and device fabrication costs. This study presents results on the fabrication and characterization of copper oxide ( CuO) coated cobalt-doped zinc oxide nanowires ( Co-doped ZnO NWs)-based heterojunction diodes prepared by a two-step synthesis route through combined hydrothermal growth and sol-gel spin coating. Highly dense, well-ordered, undoped, and Co-...
All-optical Switching of a Microcavity Repeated at Terahertz Clock Rates
Yüce, Emre; Claudon, Julien; Dupuy, Emmanuel; Buijs, Robin D.; de Ronde, Bob; Mosk, Allard P.; Gerard, Jean-Michel; Vos, Willem L. (2013-01-01)
We exploit the electronic Kerr effect that enables switching of the cavity faster than all relevant time scales. We employ the virtually instantaneous electronic Kerr effect to repeatedly and reproducibly switch a GaAs-AlAs planar microcavity made by MBE growth that operates in the telecom O-band (λ=1300 nm).
All unitary cubic curvature gravities in D dimensions
Sisman, Tahsin Cagri; Gullu, Ibrahim; Tekin, Bayram (IOP Publishing, 2011-10-07)
We construct all the unitary cubic curvature gravity theories built on the contractions of the Riemann tensor in D-dimensional (anti)-de Sitter spacetimes. Our construction is based on finding the equivalent quadratic action for the general cubic curvature theory and imposing ghost and tachyon freedom, which greatly simplifies the highly complicated problem of finding the propagator of cubic curvature theories in constant curvature backgrounds. To carry out the procedure we have also classified all the unit...
All solution processed, nanowire enhanced ultraviolet photodetectors
Afal, Aysegul; Coskun, Sahin; Ünalan, Hüsnü Emrah (AIP Publishing, 2013-01-28)
We report on the fabrication and characterization of transparent and fully solution processed, nanowire based ultraviolet (UV) photodetectors with high responsivity. For this purpose, UV sensitive zinc oxide (ZnO) nanowires were grown hydrothermally on transparent electrodes formed by spray coated network of silver (Ag) nanowires. Fabricated UV photodetectors showed short recovery time, around 4 s, with a decent on/off ratio of 2600. Effect of in-situ annealing and nanowire length was investigated. Our desi...
