Full Envelope Nonlinear Controller Design for a Novel Electric VTOL(eVTOL) Air-taxi via INDI Approach Combined with CA
Suiçmez, Emre Can; Kutay, Ali Türker; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2021-5)
On-demand urban air mobility (UAM) has become very popular in recent years with the introduction of the electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft concept. Thanks to the key advantages of electric propulsion (e.g., very low noise and zero carbon-emission), short/medium range eVTOL "air-taxi" concept emerged as a feasible solution considering the requirements of the on-demand UAM. With this motivation, flight control problems of a novel eVTOL air-taxi are discussed and a unified flight controlle...
AXIAL TURBINE BLADE AERODYNAMIC OPTIMIZATION USING A NOVEL MULTI-LEVEL GENETIC ALGORITHM
Oeksuez, Oezhan; Akmandor, Ibrahim Sinan (2008-06-13)
In this paper, a new multiploid genetic optimization method handling surrogate models of the CFD solutions is presented and applied for single objective turbine blade aerodynamic optimization problem. A fast, efficient, robust, and automated design method is developed to aerodynamically optimize 3D gas turbine blades. The design objectives are selected as maximizing the adiabatic efficiency and torque so as to reduce the weight, size and cost of the gas turbine engine. A 3-Dimensional steady Reynolds Averag...
Single channel digital controller design for a high spinning rate rolling airframe missile
Suicmez, E. C.; Kutay, Ali Türker (2022-04-01)
Spinning/Rolling Airframe Missiles (RAM) mostly use an analog (ON-OFF type) control approach that deflects control surfaces (fins) at minimum and maximum positions continuously, and control is achieved by applying phase shift between the minimum and maximum deflections during a complete roll cycle. Therefore, the control signal shape changes continuously during the roll cycle. In this study, a novel single channel digital controller is designed and tested for a high spinning rate (10-20 Hz) RAM. The digital...
Medium-Frequency Induction Melting Furnace as a Load on the Power System
Yilmaz, Ilker; Ermiş, Muammer; Cadirci, Isik (2012-07-01)
The variable-frequency operation of the coreless induction melting furnace (IMF) has been investigated in detail both theoretically and experimentally. The time variations of the operational impedance value of the IMF, owing to the time-varying resonance frequency and crucible conditions, have been derived for typical melting cycles by using a variable parallel RLC model derived from extensive field measurements. The work coil and its crucible are supplied at variable frequency from a multipulse rectifier a...
A Vibration-Based Electromagnetic Energy Harvester Using Mechanical Frequency Up-Conversion Method
Zorlu, Ozge; Topal, Emre Tan; Külah, Haluk (2011-02-01)
This paper presents a new vibration-based electromagnetic energy harvester using a mechanical frequency up-conversion method for harvesting energy from external low-frequency vibrations within a range of 1-10 Hz. The structure consists of a magnet placed on a diaphragm, a polystyrene cantilever carrying a pick-up coil, and a mechanical barrier which converts low-frequency vibrations to a higher frequency, hence increasing the efficiency of the system. The tested structure proved to generate 88.6 mV and 544....
