This study focuses on the Upper Triassic recrystallized limestone units alternating with volcanic rocks at southeastern parts of the Elazığ village (eastern Turkey). The Upper Triassic successions are mainly consists of recrystallized limestones particularly rich in benthic foraminifera, megalodonts, and algae. Comprehensive microfacies analysis and faunal assemblages have been commenced throughout the studied sections. The micropaleontological analysis highlights foraminiferal assemblages, dominated by the involutinids, lagenids, and textularids. The Triasina hantkeni biozone has been established based by the presence of an index species of the late Noriyen-Rhaetian interval. The stratigraphic range of this zone is defined by the range of the key species as late Norian-Rhaetian. In addition to eponymous species, Aulotortus sinuosus, Aulotortus friedli, Involutina sp., Galeanella sp., Duostomina sp., Glomospira sp., Glomospirella sp., Duotaxis birmanica, Siphovalvulina sp., and Reophax sp. are the other foraminiferal taxa recorded in the Upper Triassic carbonates. Based on the detailed microfacies analysis, the Upper Triassic carbonates of the section are represented by the following microfacies types representing shallow marine environments: mudstone, wackestone-packstone, pelloidal bioclastic packstone-grainstone. These defined microfacies types are characteristics of the subtidal and intertidal deposits. Alternating volcanic rocks are mainly alkaline basalts with aphanitic texture. They have P-MORB affinities with enrichment of light rare earth elements over heavy rare earth elements and would be originated from garnet bearing mantle source.

Foraminiferal biostratigraphy and sequence stratigraphy of peritidal carbonates at the Triassic-Jurassic boundary (Karaburun Peninsula, Western Turkey)
Tunaboylu, B. Coskun; Altıner, Demir; İŞİNTEK, İSMAİL; Demirci, D. (2014-08-15)
Continuous shallow marine carbonates spanning the Triassic-Jurassic boundary are exposed in the Karaburun Peninsula, Western Turkey. The studied section (Tahtaiskele section) consists of Upper Triassic cyclic shallow marine carbonates intercalated with clastics overlain by Lower Liassic carbonates. Based on the microfacies stacking patterns, three main types of shallowing-upward cycles have been recognized. Cycles are mostly composed of subtidal facies at the bottom, intertidal/supratidal facies and/or suba...
Rapid cooling history of a Neotethyan ophiolite: Evidence for contemporaneous subduction initiation and metamorphic sole formation
PARLAK, OSMAN; Dunkl, Istvan; KARAOĞLAN, FATİH; Kusky, Timothy M.; Zhang, Chao; Wang, Lu; Koepke, Juergen; Billor, Zeki; Hames, Willis E.; ŞİMŞEK, EMRAH; Simsek, Gokce; ŞİMŞEK, TUĞÇE; Ozturk, Selena Ezgi (Geological Society of America, 2019-11-01)
The Beywhir-Hoyran Nappes, including Mesozoic carbonate platform rocks, deepsea sediments, and ophiolite-related units, crop out extensively on the western limb of the Isparta Angle in the Central Taurides, Turkey. The ophiolite-related rocks are represented by variably serpentinized harzburgitic mantle tectonites, tectonically underlain by a subophiolitic metamorphic sole and melange. The harzburgitic mantle tectonites and metamorphic sole are intruded by undeformed isolated dikes. Protoliths of the metamo...
Palaeoenvironment and human interaction during the last 4k years in the dried lake sediments (amik lake, southern turkey): evidences of lake level changes
El Ouahabi, Meriam; Hubert-ferrari, Aurelia; Auwera, Vander; Avşar, Ulaş; Karabacak, Volkan (2019-02-01)
The Amik Basin in the Eastern Mediterranean region has been continuously occupied since 6000-7000 BC. The landscape has sustained with highly variable anthropic pressure culminating during the Late Roman Period when the Antioch city reached its golden age. The basin also sustained a high seismic activity (M≥7) as it is a releasing step-over along the Dead Sea Fault. The study focuses on the sedimentary record of the Amik Lake occupying the central part of the Basin. Our objective is to constrain major paleo...
Palaeoenvironmental and chronological constraints on the Tuglu Formation (Cankiri Basin, Central Anatolia, Turkey)
Mazzini, Ilaria; Hudackova, Natalia; Joniak, Peter; Kovacova, Marianna; Mikes, Tamas; Mulch, Andreas; Rojay, Fuat Bora; Lucifora, Stella; Esu, Daniela; Soulie-Maersche, Ingeborg (2013-01-01)
The Cankiri Basin, located in the northern part of the Central Anatolian Plateau, is a large Tertiary basin where thick Miocene to Quaternary continental sediments overlay the Cretaceous-Tertiary units. This investigation focuses on the Tuglu Formation, an Upper Miocene succession mainly composed of dark grey silty and organic rich clays. The type section of Tuglu has been sampled for an array of multidisciplinary analyses. The palaeontological proxies included ostracod, foraminifer, nannoplankton, pollen, ...
