Estimation of wheat yields by using remotely sensed and modeled agro-meteorological data-driven statistical and crop growth models
Bulut, Burak; Yılmaz, Mustafa Tuğrul; Department of Civil Engineering (2021-6)
Estimation of wheat yield is essential not only for agricultural sectors but also for making economic and strategic decisions at the national level. In this thesis, wheat yield estimation was carried out on the cities and districts where the highest wheat production is made with rainfed agriculture in Turkey and on TİGEM research farms. Two different modeling approaches were evaluated within the scope of the thesis; a statistical multiple linear regression (MLR) model based on analysis of possible agro-mete...
Estimation of grain characteristics of soils by using cone penetration test (CPT) data
Ozan, Cem; Çetin, Kemal Önder; Department of Civil Engineering (2003)
Due to lack of soil sampling during a conventional cone penetration testing (CPT), it is necessary to classify soils based on recorded tip and sleeve friction and pore pressure (if available) values. However, currently available soil classification models are based on deterministic and judgemental determination of soil classification boundaries which do not address the uncertainties intristic to the problem. Moreover, size and quality of databases used in the development of these soil classification models ...
Modelling of nitrogen removal in Ankara wastewater treatment plant
Kim, Eun-Ah; Gökçay, Celal F.; Department of Environmental Engineering (2002)
Nowadays environmental legislations in many countries have all imposed strict effluent quality standards for carbon, nitrogen and phosphorous for wastewater treatment plants. This in turn caused complicated design, operation and control of biological treatment systems. As a result, computer programs based on complex mathematical models are now developed for the simulation of such complicated systems. The influent wastewater characterization based on COD and Nitrogen fractionation became very important in de...
Forecasting warranty claims for month in services groups in automotive sector
Teköz, Begüm; Yozgatlıgil, Ceylan; Taşkaya Temizel, Tuğba; Department of Statistics (2022-8)
Forecasting claim rate under warranty allows companies to optimize their production processes, reduce warranty costs and maintain customer satisfaction. In the case of a production crisis, the poor performance of the claim rate forecast negatively affects business processes. This thesis aims to improve the business processes of many departments, including production, research and development, quality, and after-sales, by forecasting the number of monthly claims in each service group. In this study, warranty...
Investigation of layout optimization for offshore wind farms and a case study for a region in Turkey
Kaya, Baran; Oğuz, Elif; Department of Civil Engineering (2022-2)
In this thesis, the focus was to develop an optimization tool by using mathematical layout optimization methods aiming to increase the energy capacity or reduce the cost of an offshore wind farm. For this purpose, two wind farm layout optimization (WFLO) models were developed using genetic algorithm (GA): model (a) minimizing the cost of power for variable turbine number, model (b) maximizing the power generation for fixed turbine number. Wind speed and wind direction were assumed constant. Therefore, unlik...
