Developing the understanding of geometry through a computer-based learning environment
Üstün, Işıl; Ubuz, Behiye; Department of Secondary Science and Mathematics Education (2003)
The main purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of a dynamic instructional environment (based on use of Geometer's Sketchpad) on 7th grade students' understandings of lines, angles, and polygons and their retention. Besides that, the students' attitudes towards computer instruction and its relation with students' performance on geometry and retention were investigated. The study was carried out with 63 7th grade students from two classes taught by the same teacher in a state elementary school i...
Effects of using manipulatives on seventh grade students' achievement in transformation geometry and orthogonal views of geometric figures
Enki, Kerim; Haser, Çiğdem; Department of Elementary Science and Mathematics Education (2014)
The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of using manipulatives on seventh grade students’ achievement in transformation geometry and orthogonal views of geometric figures. This study also aimed to investigate students’ views about using manipulatives. The study was conducted in one elementary school in Keçiören district of Ankara in the Spring semester of 2012-2013 academic year. The study employed a static group pretest-posttest research design with 73 seventh grade students. Two cl...
The Effects of dynamic geometry use on eighth grade students’ achievement in geometry and attitude towards geometry on triangle topic
Samur, Halime; Akyüz, Didem; Department of Elementary Science and Mathematics Education (2015)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of dynamic geometry based computer instruction on eighth grade students’ achievement in geometry, attitudes toward geometry and technology compared to traditional instruction. Moreover, it was aimed to get the students’ ideas about the effects of computer based instruction and to interpret their learning process. The study was quasi-experimental design that includes experimental and control groups. The sample of the study was 36 eighth grade students (...
Casual relations among 12th grade students' geometry knowledge, spatial ability, gender and school type
Eryılmaz Çevirgen, Ayşegül; Ubuz, Behiye; Department of Secondary Science and Mathematics Education (2012)
The purpose of this study is to invetigate the causal relationships among 12th grade students’ geometry knowledge regarding prisms and pyramids, spatial ability, gender, and school type. Path analysis was used to test the relationships among knowledge factors (declarative, conditional, and procedural knowledge), spatial ability factors (spatial visualization, mental rotation, and spatial perception ability), gender (female and male), and school type (general high schools and Anatolian high schools). Knowled...
The effect on instruction with concrete models on eighth grade students' geometry achievement and attitudes toward geometry
Bayram, Sibel; Bulut, Safure; Department of Secondary Science and Mathematics Education (2004)
The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of concrete models on eighth grade students̕ geometry achievement and attitudes toward geometry. The study was conducted on 106 eighth grade students in one of the private school in Ankara. The subjects of the study received instruction with concrete models, and by the traditional method. Cooperative learning method and discovery learning method were also used to provide better classroom environment and to create exciting classroom atmosphere for the u...
