Design and implementation of an ultracapacitor test
Eroğlu, Hasan Hüseyin; Hava, Ahmet Masum; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2010)
In this thesis, a test system is designed and implemented in order to evaluate the basic electrical performance and determine the parameters of ultracapacitors (UC). The implemented UC test system is based on power electronics converters and it is capable of charging and discharging the UC under test with predetermined current profiles. The charging operation is provided by a configuration involving the AC utility grid, a step-down transformer, a diode bridge, and a DC bus filter capacitor followed by a ste...
Landing autopilot design for an UAV
Hanköylü, Merve; Çiloğlu, Tolga; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2011)
In this thesis, a landing autopilot for an UAV (IAI Pioneer RQ-2) is designed based on a nonlinear MATLAB model implemented with MATLAB/Simulink. In order to control the movement of the UAV at lateral and longitudinal axes, a speed, an altitude, a heading angle (direction) and a yaw rate controllers are designed. Controller design procedure is started with determination of different trim points of the aircraft. Next, the corresponding initial states and initial inputs are obtained. The model is linearized a...
Multi objective conceptual design optimization of an agricultural aerial robot (AAR)
Özdemir, Segah; Tekinalp, Ozan; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2005)
Multiple Cooling Multi Objective Simulated Annealing algorithm has been combined with a conceptual design code written by the author to carry out a multi objective design optimization of an Agricultural Aerial Robot. Both the single and the multi objective optimization problems are solved. The performance figures of merits for different aircraft configurations are compared. In this thesis the potential of optimization as a powerful design tool to the aerospace problems is demonstrated.
Observer based condition monitoring of an electrohydraulic actuation system
Poyraz, Emre Mura; Turgut, Ali Emre; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2019)
In this thesis study, jamming fault in an electrohydraulic actuation system which may be quite critical for aerospace applications are detected using model-based approaches. A hydraulic test setup consisting of a connected motor controlled electro hydrostatic actuation (EHA) system and a servo Proportional valve controlled load simulator system is used for the verification of the proposed fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) algorithm. Based on the system dynamics of the equipment in the test bench, mathemat...
Implementation and comparison of turbulence models on a flat plate problem using a Navier-Stokes solver
Genç, Balkan Ziya; Aksel, Mehmet Haluk; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2003)
For turbulent flow calculations, some of the well-known turbulence models in the literature are applied on a previously developed Navier-Stokes solver designed to handle laminar flows. A finite volume formulation, which is cell-based for inviscid terms and cell-vertex for viscous terms, is used for numerical discretization of the Navier-Stokes equations in conservative form. This formulation is combined with one-step, explicit time marching Lax-Wendroff numerical scheme that is second order accurate in spac...
