High-Resolution Solar Imaging With Photon Sieves
Öktem, Sevinç Figen; Davila, Joseph M (2014-12-15)
A photon sieve is a modification of a Fresnel zone plate in which open zones are replaced by a large number of circular holes. This lightweight optical device offers a superior image forming capability compared with the Fresnel zone plate, and is specially suited to observations at UV and x-ray wavelengths where refractive lenses are not available due to strong absorption of materials, and reflective mirrors are difficult to manufacture to achieve near diffraction-limited resolution. At these shorter wavele...
High-frequency CMUT arrays for high-resolution medical imaging
Oralkan, O; Hansen, ST; Bayram, Barış; Yaralioglu, GG; Ergun, AS; Khuri-Yakob, BT (2004-01-01)
This paper describes high-frequency I-D CMUT arrays designed and fabricated for use in electronically scanned high-resolution ultrasonic imaging systems. Two different designs of 64-element linear CMUT arrays are presented in this paper. A single element in each array is connected to a single-channel custom front-end integrated circuit for pulse-echo operation. The first design has a resonant frequency of 43 MHz in air, and operates at 30 MHz in immersion. The second design exhibits a resonant frequency of ...
High-performance SOI-MEMS gyroscope with decoupled oscillation modes
Alper, Se; Azgın, Kıvanç; Akın, Tayfun (2006-01-26)
This paper presents a new, high-performance SOI-MEMS gyroscope with decoupled oscillation modes. The gyroscope structure allows to achieve matched-resonance-frequencies, large drive-mode oscillation amplitude, high sense-mode quality factor, and low mechanical crosstalk, demonstrating a measured noise-equivalent rate of 90 (deg/hr)/Hz(1/2) even at atmospheric pressure. The angular rate sensitivity of the gyroscope is 100 mu V/(deg/sec) at atmospheric pressure. This value improves to 2.4mV/(deg/sec) at vacuu...
High Haze Nano Textured Aluminum doped Zinc Oxide withPlasmonic Silver Nanoparticles for Enhanced Optical Absorption and Photocurrent of a Si H thin film
Nasser, Hisham; Özkol, Engin; Bek, Alpan; Turan, Raşit (null; 2015-01-15)
We report on fabrication of plasmonic interfaces consisting of Ag nanoparticles on flat and textured Al:ZnO for use at the front surface of thin film solar cells to enhance light trapping and photo-conversion efficiencies. We show that outstandingly high transmittance haze is achieved from single step HCl surface textured Al:ZnO and demonstrate Ag dewetting on textured and flat Al:ZnO surfaces upon annealing at moderate temperatures. Optical response of these plasmonic interfaces clearly display plasmonic r...
