Solid nitrogen exhibits various phases under different temperatures and pressures. At very high pressures up to about 100 GPa, the most stable structure in nitrogen is the cubic gauche structure and the polymeric crystalline phase is obtained from this structure. In this study, we calculate the Raman frequency of an optical mode (600 cm-1 at P=0) as a function of pressure for cubic gauche nitrogen using some thermodynamic data from the literature. The calculated Raman frequency of this optical mode increases with the pressure in the cubic gauche nitrogen as expected, which can be compared with the observed data when it is available in the literature. This can explain the thermodynamic properties of the cubic gauche nitrogen at high pressures.

Temperature and Pressure Effect on the Raman Frequencies Calculated from the Crystal Volume in the gamma-Phase of Solid Nitrogen
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2015-09-01)
The temperature and pressure dependences of the Raman frequencies of the lattice modes (E-g and B-1g modes) and of an internal mode (2331 cm(-1)) are predicted using the observed molar volume data from the literature in the gamma-phase of solid N-2. This calculation is carried out by means of the mode Gruneisen parameter of each Raman mode in the gamma-phase of solid nitrogen. Our results show that the predicted Raman frequencies of the E-g mode increase as the pressure increases. The Raman frequencies of t...
Pressure dependence of the Raman frequency calculated from the volume data close to the ferroelectric-paraelectric transition in PbTiO3
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (2017-01-01)
We calculate the pressure dependence of the Raman frequencies of some Raman modes by using the observed volume data through the mode Gruneisen parameters for the ferroelectri-paraelectric transition in PbTiO3. The mode Gruneisen parameters which we have determined using the observed Raman frequencies for the soft modes, increase considerably with increasing pressure toward the transition pressure (PC similar to 11 GPa) from the tetragonal (ferroelectric) to the cubic (paraelectric) phase in PbTiO3. Variatio...
Pressure dependence of the heat capacity near the melting point in benzene
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (2017-09-01)
The heat capacity C-p is calculated as a function of pressure at constant temperatures of 25, 40 and 51 degrees C for the solid and liquid phases of benzene near the melting point. For this calculation, the observed molar volume from the literature are used at various pressures for constant temperatures indicated through the thermodynamic relations in the solid and liquid phases of benzene near the melting point.
Temperature and pressure dependence of molar volume in solid phases of ammonia near the melting point
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (Elsevier BV, 2008-08-20)
Temperature and pressure dependencies of the molar volume are studied here along the transition curve between solid I and solid II phases near the melting point in ammonia. The molar volumes are calculated in the temperature range of 217 to 224 K and in the pressure range of 3 to 8 kbar with respect to the triple point (T-t=217.34 K. P-t=3.070 kbar) where the melting curves of solid I and solid II coincide with the transition curve in ammonia.
Temperature dependence of the Raman bandwidths and intensities of a lattice mode near the tricritical and second order phase transitions in NH4Cl
Karacali, H; Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (2006-01-11)
We calculate here the temperature dependence of the damping constant using the expressions derived from the Matsushita's theory and the temperature dependence of the order parameter from the molecular field theory for the tricritical (1.5 kbar) and second order (2.8 kbar) phase transitions in NH4Cl. Our calculations are performed for the nu(5) (174 cm(-1)) Raman mode of NH4Cl for the pressures studied. Predictions for the damping constant are in good agreement with our observed Raman bandwidths of this latt...
