The Impact of Individual Assumptions on Functional Size Measurement
Turetken, Oktay; Top, Ozden Ozcan; Ozkan, Baris; Demirörs, Onur (2008-11-20)
Having been improved, evolved and standardized by the Organization for Standardization (ISO), Functional Size Measurement (FSM) methods have become widely used. However, the measurers still face difficulties in measuring the software products which include unconventional components. We faced the challenge to observe if different interpretations or assumptions of the measurers cause significant differences in the measurement results. In this study, we present the results of a multiple case study we conducted...
Studies towards the preparation of functionalized cellulose microspheres with affinities towards negatively charged biomembranes
Demirel, Kaan; Türkyılmaz, Serhan; Department of Chemistry (2021-7)
Cellulose microspheres (CMs), generally with diameters in the 10-1000 µm range, have been used as stationary phases in chromatography, substrates for ion exchange applications, supports for protein immobilization and solid-phase synthesis, and drug loading and release materials. Furthermore, cellulose and CMs are biocompatible and have been used in many biomedical applications as varied as the dressing of wounds and blood filtration. Targeting of bacterial cells can be achieved using antibodies, antibody fr...
The impact of ionic liquid pretreatment on the chemistry and enzymatic digestibility of Pinus radiata compression wood
TORR, KIRK; LOVE, KAREN; Persil Çetinkol, Özgül; DONALDSON, LLOYD; GEORGE, ANTHE; HOLMES, BRADLEY; SIMMONS, BLAKE (2012-01-01)
Compression wood represents a unique challenge for biochemical processing of softwoods to biofuels and chemicals on account of its high lignin and galactan, and low glucan contents. Here we report the impact of ionic liquid pretreatment on the chemistry and enzymatic digestibility of Pinus radiata compression wood and opposite wood. Samples were pretreated using 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate at 120 degrees C and 155 degrees C for 3 h. Hemicelluloses were preferentially extracted during the pretreatmen...
The effect of Halobacterium halobium on photoelectrochemical hydrogen production
Sediroglu, V; Yucel, M; Gündüz, Ufuk; Turker, L; Eroğlu, İnci (1997-06-26)
A bio-photoelectrochemical (bio-PEC) reactor containing the photosynthetic bacterium Halobacterium halobium has been constructed. H. halobium contains a retinal protein, bacteriorhodopsin, in its purple membrane that gives protons upon illumination. In this system, the biocatalytic effect of bacteriorhodopsin on photoelectrochemical hydrogen production was determined.
