Theoretical and experimental investigation of residual stresses in electric discharge machining
Ekmekçi, Bülent; Erden, Abdülkadir; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2004)
Electric Discharge Machining (EDM) is a process for eroding and removing material by transient action of electric sparks on electrically conductive materials immersed in a dielectric liquid and separated by a small gap. A spark-eroded surface is a surface with matt appearance and random distribution of overlapping craters. It is mechanically hard and stressed close to ultimate tensile strength of the material and sometimes covered with a network of micro cracks. The violent nature of the process leads a uni...
Theoretical and experimental investigation of fluid rheology effects on modulated ultrasound propagation
Ozkok, Okan; Uludağ, Yusuf (2014-09-01)
A mathematical model is developed and presented to capture the effect of viscoelastic nature of a material on modulated ultrasound (US) pulses. The model is established by considering perturbation of material elements subject to modulated US pulses and by introducing the exponential relaxation of the perturbed fluid elements with a spectrum of time constants. Both the model and experimental findings revealed that consecutive perturbation of a material via the modulated US pulses enabled to probe the relaxat...

Theoretical and experimental investigation of soft x-rays emitted from TIN plasmas for lithographic application
Demir, Pinar; KAÇAR, ELİF; AKMAN, ERHAN; Bilikmen, Sinan Kadri; DEMİR, ARİF (2007-08-27)
Extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUVL) requires an emission of soft x-rays around a wavelength region of 13.5 nm. EHYBRID simulation was made under the laser operation at 1064 nm with a pulse duration of 6 ns. Intensity was changed between 1 x 10(12) W/cm(2) and 5 x 10(12) W/cm(2). Soft X-rays emitted from Sri XII and Sri XIII ions were simulated by using the EHYBRID code. Ion Fractions of the tin ions and the line intensities for different electron temperatures were calculated by using the collisional radi...
